It's no secret it takes a special kind of guy to make a life for himself in the fight game, whether as a fighter, a trainer, etc. we can find great characters all around the game and this has always been the case. I'd love to hear about some funny, heartbreaking, interesting, inspiring, ugly ... you're familiar with.

I just think Duran is one unique man, we'll never see that again i'd say.

Chinx this is a great thread but my brother is moaning to get the computer off me now so i'm out for a bit.

Later, i'll take a look in a few hours.

    Were to begin?

John L Sullivan outside the ring was obsessed with cheese making. The local cheese factory used to let him come in when he pleased and mess about making new types.

Young Griffo once avoided prosecution for indecent conduct because the judge decided that his actions were too apauling to tell the jury about.

Jack Johnson atracted as much atention in the media for his flashy dressing habits as for his exploits inside the ring. On one ocasion he turned up to a fight wearing a pink suit on another ocasion a green suit.

Battling Siki used to walk round town with a lion on a lead and randomly fire pistols in the air.

One of Max Baers favourite tricks was to creep up behind sombody in a restaurant put a box of matches under their foot set fire to it and wait for the screams to start. He called it hot "footing".

  Thanks for the laughs, Janitor; Right on time. :good You gotta wonder if it's the game that attracts these colorful characters, or if the game will actually turn you into a colorful character. Maybe a little of both.

janitor thats hilarious stuff, you cant make that up.

I always like the NY scene JG was involved with, with Pep and Graziano particulary they seemed a bunch of jokers. Also the Gleason gym seemed to be full of them.

One im fascinated with recently is Carlos Monzon what an enigma he was?
