I notice timbur Ibagimov has a fight coming up. I thought Sultan was a pretty good fighter. I hate to see him go. He fought one hell of a fight against Briggs. I always thought he was a better fighter than Chagaev. He didn't really get beat up by wlad. Wlad was scared to open up his chin. Sultan's power was underrated.

If I recall correctly he made HUGE money in the Holyfield PPV from russian television. The number was between 8-12 million dollars, and that didn't even include his purse money. I remember reading Iggy had one of the best television deals, comparable to that of the Klitschko's. He also made another 8 million combined for the Wlad fight. I personally thought he was already retired. Something that was largely overlooked during the Holyfield fight was that he said he may retire after that fight. The Wlad money was too much to pass up, but by all accounts he made a ton of money, held on to a lot of it, and is pretty content. Good luck to him, I say.

One contributing factor may have been that the big money fights
are in the U.S.A. where sultan has to stay away from.

    or it's jail time

That's good news all the way around. He keeps his health, has tons of money, and one less boring Heavyweight.

Why would it be jail time? That doesn''t make any sense at all what did he do? He fought Wlad, Briggs, Austin, Mora, etc. in the U.S. already.

Edit: Hell, I just looked on Boxrec Ibragimov has fought his whole career in the U.S. besides the Holyfield fight a couple of others early in his career.

Why does he have to stay away from the USA, I haven't heard this story.

Also, many of the top heavyweight fights are happening in Europe, still PLENTY of money for him to make if he wanted to.

He had a nice career. Accomplished more than 99.999% of people who ever lace on the gloves. I wish him all the best. Guys that make their money, save it, and retire with their health and their marbles. Cant fu(k with that!

Best wishes to Sultan and his new family!

I'm surprised that he's supposedly a millionaire. What big fights did he have besides Klitschko?

I can't remember the details but I believe it involved a paternity issue....or something like that.

Really interesting news you wrote on the Russian TV money, if it's true Sultan should be set for life. One smart move.

I'm looking for some sources showing the purses he made, but can't find them. I have a writer friend who also posts on here that I'll ask about it when I see him online. He's sort of a whiz when it comes to the going on's in the sport.

I know he made a ton of money, just not sure the exact figures.

That information on the money makes sense, seeing as how Sultan fought against Wlad like he already was set for life. No pressure, no trying to get inside, just staying on the outside slapping hands with WK.

Still, it's always good to see a boxer walk away with his finances and senses intact. Good for him.

I did hear that in the end he stiffed his trainer and some sparing partners. Jail time might be from that. Also going on the topic for $$. His fight with Austin set some record for the bid on the network it was shown on. Some Russian promotion outfit got it and the owner was a big supporter of Sultan, so he got a decent payday off of that. I'll miss Iggy's humor, the adds for the Holyfield fight were pretty funny.

I admire him for doing this.

He took his chance to see if hes the best Heavyweight in this era and came up short.

Instead of recyling himself and miliking whatever Money he can, he does the honorable thing IMO.

Many of today's heavyweights and other weight division fighters could learn a thing or 2 from this.
