Even in this shot stage of Jones's career he is still a world class fighter with very good skills, he still has some residue of greatness from his prime.
It shows how great Roy was at one time that he was able to be slightly competitive with Calzaghe back in November 2008.

Let me put it like this, if the current Roy Jones was a prospect named "John Doe" on his way up the rankings pretty much everyone would be saying he has a bright future and that he has a chance to be a great fighter one day.

So has there ever been a better shot fighter than the current Roy Jones Junior?

He is still a solid B level fighter. and thats amazing given his decline. Watching his fights now you almost expect him to turn it up a notch like the old roy and destroy the guy. Thats what so frustrating.

Considering how far he is from his prime and the losses he has suffered, Its impressive. I thought he would never be in the ring again after the Johnson fight.

i would still have him beating most 175 lbers except for the truly elite
and he has gotten ballsier as he has gotten more shot... apparently there was talk of a jones-adamek fight that hbo nixed for roy's sake

When you properly isolate what's been plaguing Jones since the Tarver and Johnson knockouts - and that has been his overt gun-shyness, lack of self belief, and overall mental weakness - and it's still a massive massive problem for him 4, and 5, and 6 years later. I for one was amazed at the common delusion that Roy's decline has been mostly physical in nature. Most people would tell you, and still will tell you, that "Roy lost his reflexes," or "Roy lost his speed," ect. No, he's not what he once was, clearly not, but the issue for Jones has never been about being physically shot, IMHO. Never at all. Mentally, he's an absolute shell of what he once was. The truth, has fully exposed itself over time. His handspeed made the allegedly fast handed Calzaghe look slow by comparison. Which it was.. Slow by comparison.

I'd say that Roberto Duran is the greatest "shot" fighter of all time. Those massive wins are all that people remember, literally.

Well he is shot in comparison to what he use to be but in comparison to other current fighters within his division he does'nt appear to be a shot fighter.

I hope that makes some sense.:bbb

He can throw a single punch as fast as anyone in the game, but no way can he put combinations together like he used to. And I think his stamina has taken a hit aswell, thus his propensity to stand against the ropes for whole rounds.
