just asking what you guys think of me sparring and what i should do to improve. as i know you guys will tell me straight :good im the one with the blue head guard on and im too relaxed for the first bit and sloppy so try to watch from 2.40 onwards if you havent got alot of time or at work etc. ive been training a while but only had one fight and in the sparring i was trying a few things out like a right hook to vary my shots( i know i throw a wild one at one point) We train with 16oz gloves on and it was a quietish night in the gym so took the chance to video it http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=58N1FKbk3nU thanks anyways
1.stop dropping your hands 2.straighten out your punches, snap your jab 3.stop bringin your feet together 4.wen your backing off only take a step or 2 back but dont go from one side of the ring to the other it gives your opponent more of a chance to put pressure on you. how long have you been boxing anyway?
yeah i was abit too relaxed on that spar but wanted to finally video myself because ive never done it. i did drop my hands a few times but it was mainly because i knew i could move out the way of the punches but when im fighting a faster guy i usually bring them up. thanks for the advise though especially on 4 i normally move that far away because the other guy usually stops but i agree. been boxing on and off for about 5 years i think, i was playing rugby at the same time so couldnt concentrate on boxing as much as i wanted to and kept getting little injuries that stopped me training.
This is an early round, but half way through we do jab's only http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n3QR40n1hPg
seems like your putting too much weight on your front foot and your footwork is quite bad, try work on your footwork more and avoid crossing your feet and stepping too close
You can do a simple one where you jsut practice moving forward, backward, and side to side. This makes the movements feel natural and should help. Also when he puts pressure on you, move to the side instead of backwards.
Thanks i have been working on going to the side instead of going straight backwards but need to keep working on it obviously cause i havent done it on this video lol :good
No worries, that's what sparring is all about :good. Make and learn your mistakes here, that way you'll be ready for the real fights .
Power thats not bad pal. I've seen far worse on here. Lots to work on though, some of its been covered above. You have a wealth of knowledgable trainers at collyhurst i'd be tempted to say that they should be advising you not guys on a boxing forum, though i wouldn't argue with any of their points. Why do you not ask them? And why can you not ask them about footwprk drills?
thanks, i rarely work on my footwork and guess it tells but its not till someone tells you that you realise. I know what you mean about askin the trainers etc but just thought the more help the merrier and its always good to get a fresh eye to look at you incase they see something someone else doesnt. Plus i figured abit of advise anywhere will help. I do ask for advise all the time though from the trainers and what to work on or what needs improving. Rather have constructed critism than compliments. At collyhurst they try to stop the amature jumping up n down on your toes and try and teach a more pro style to save energy etc but maybe i need to get on my toes a bit more.
Collyhurst have always been a feared club in that you know that the lads were going to be able to do a bit when you boxed them. I think you look tidy but i'm pretty **** at picking individual things up now since i've started coaching properly. t like I want to change everything to MY way lol. All i'll say is if you end up hald as good as Mcdonagh, Farnell, Jennings, Hall, Barrett, Reid or Gomez you'll be ok. Anytime you fancy doing a bit in Blackpool let me know. :good
You can still stay on your toes without bouncing. What my trainer does, instead of bouncing he tells us to kinda step back on forth if that makes sense
