who do you see winning that fight?

Do you see it pretty much like what happened in their actual fight? Would have been there a KD, or a TKO? A close fight, or someone would have controlled the tempo for a convincing UD win?

Do you think the Hopkins of that time would have shown more aggression and stamina against Calzaghe's solid workrate and quickness?

Or their close fight simply illuminates the fact that, even in any time during their career, Calzaghe has Hopkins' number and would probably beat him more often than not.

    Your thoughts gentlemen.

Why not make the rematch now? BHop still has some fuel left in the tank for a couple more 12 rounders. I'd watch.

this should be fun later on.

i can name at least 4 posters who will jump on your ass for suggesting the ex-con is anything other than the epitome of omnipotence and none other than captain invincible himself.

Nice idea pal. Tell that to Calzaghe. His team might be interested for another money fight.

Would be better IMO than their first fight.

Interesting this one , you must bear in mind in 2002 Hopkins was a MW and wasnt a massive MW either above average id say , Hopkins has always in my mind picked his opponents niceley , not cherry picked or ducked anyone but he has nice timing in the opposition selection , in 2002 Calzaghe was having major hand problems and looked scared to step into the ring with anyone who resembled world class .

If Hopkins would of agreed to fight in the UK Joe would of taken Hopkins and vice versa with Calzaghe agree'ing to fight in the states , however this was never ever gonna happen then , so we missed out .

At the time my fight prediction would of been a Calzaghe wide UD , i just beleive Calzaghe is better than Hopkins in any era or weight class , maybe not Jones but certainly a better fighter than Hopkins , however quite rightly so its BHop who ranks higher in the AT P4P rankings as Joe took far to long to expose himself to the America and the bigger names and fights .

Actually i felt Calzaghe Hopkins 2 in the Millenium stadium should of happened after Jones but there we go !!!!!!!!!!!

But for me Calzaghe 10 times out of 10 .

That is a very bold statement mate.

Didn't you see any thing from Hopkins in 2002 that would make you believe he can beat Calzaghe if they fought that time?

This was after he methodically broke down Tito's body for almost full 12 rounds, and looking unbeatable for a long stretch of time at MW then.

Alcohol gives you infinite patience for stupidity.

in fact me and my colleagues now own a Creative Artists Agency we put together a project dealing with the extraordinary mediocrity and colossal stupidity, you should join.

now I am patient with stupidity but not with those who are proud of it.

Granted !!!! , but Tito was / is not Joe Calzaghe , i beleive Hopkins did look better around that time and beleive people would of made him the favourite to beat Joe .

However Joe was naturally the bigger man then , Hopkins was arguably a lighter puncher back then (not that he's ever been a big puncher) therefore Hopkins @168 in 2002 would of posed little threat to Calzaghe in terms of forcing a stoppage , thus allowing Calzaghe to poor onto him in the middle to late rounds .

While people say Hopkins was over the hill and was not the same man he was years ago when Joe beat him , its complete BS , Hopkins's best wins have come in the later stages of his career (Tarver & Pavlik) (Trinidad & Johnson were also good wins but not his best) so that theory is rubbish .

I just beleive Joe to be a better fighter than Hopkins period like i say in any era or weight class . The difference between them is the resume's , Hopkins has more fights against top level fighters while they were in there prime , but as ability goes its Calzaghe on top for me .

    lol at the welterweight reference...

  12. I agree. Calzaghe beats Hopkins.

You have to remember that when Calzaghe fought Hopkins he was fighting at a new weight for the first time, he was fighting in the US for the first time, his preparations were hampered, and he fought a pretty poor fight, whearas Hopkins fought near to as good as he could have hoped and despite all that, Calzaghe still won. I don't see how things would have been different in 2002, Hopkins wouldn't have stopped Calzaghe but he may have done less holding and faking and had Calzaghe boxed a bad fight Hopkins may have edged him. But I honestly think Calzaghe is simply a better fighter and always has been.
