As for Lewis not fancying a rematch, who could blame him. He was 38, on the decline and had nothing left to prove. Retirement was the obvious choice.
i like lewis a lot, hell he is my fav boxer, but realistically speaking now, klitchko probably will be too much for him, even with getting in good shape. vit by late round submission tko
Yeah man, I can, haha. Thanks for the compliment on the post. I just see a prime Lewis as a bit more dynamic than anything Vitali has ever demonstrated. Not an easy fight, to be sure, but Lewis has the jab and skills to do the job if he had the stamina of his youth to truly see it out.
No problem with this post bud. I've never claimed he was in horrid shape, I just take issue with people who say he was in great shape. IMO over his 44 fight career this would rank in the top 5 for poor preparation and overall fitness level.
Vitali didn't have the style to beat Lennox. Vitali can't body punch, and nor was he strong enough to ko Lewis. Lewis was just too strong for Vitali. An in shape Lewis stops Vitali on cuts again. Lewis retired because he stopped Vitali. Had Lennox just won a close decision, he probably would've gone for the rematch. Lennox had nothing to prove. Lennox was already rich. Only Klits fans think Lewis didn't want the rematch. I don't know who would've paid Lennox 15 mil for a rematch, but that is a lot of money. I don't believe that number to be accurate anyway. Lewis won on a stoppage, so there really isn't anything any Klit fan can say about Lewis retiring without a rematch. Lennox did rematches so for those who think that he did not want Vitali again are just reaching lol...
Lewis was not in terrible shape. He was in good shape, but not great shape just like Vitali. both took punches that probably stop other guys. Lennox won on a clean punch that caused the cut. The question is...what could Vitali have done differently in the rematch, and imo vitali could have done...nothing different to win the rematch.
I like Vitali, but why didn't he fight Rahman, and who did he ko that was noteworthy that fans cared about besides Sanders?:huh Just asking...
You're living in a fantasy world if you think Lewis collapsed. That was the most absurd outlook on this fight out of all the outlooks that were given the night Lewis beat Vitali. Ali collapsed after 14 against Frazier, Sugar collapsed after his fight with Hagler. Lennox did not collapse...
I've seen Lewis in fights where he wasn't so impressive, like against Mercer. VK would destroy a prime mercer, IMO.
I don't want to nitpick over promises, agreements, what both fighters have said. Lewis didn't promise anything, and if he did, so what. You know deep down that Lennox didn't want the rematch because he knew Vitali might win this time, but because he had nothing to prove. I always read that Lennox said that he would think about a rematch. The stoppage left fans with a bad taste in their mouths, but it was fair and square. Lewis said a lot of things, and had people in his ear telling him to retire...especially his mom, something fans don't care to know. He had nothing to prove anymore. He was getting old, and he went out on top, something many boxers do not do. He won on a stoppage. I'm good friends with Harold Knight, and that is what he told me a while back.
