None of the guys on that list were "chumps." Sturm has the WBA title, whether he deserved to keep it or not is another conversation. Winky is still in Ring's top 10 at 160. Balzsay is the WBO titlist at 168, and he is a southpaw like Bute. Martinez is a smaller guy moving up, but he wanted the fight, and this would have been the easiest fight to make by far.

That would be a very good fight. especially if Bute wins. How do you like that fight being a bute fan?

I'd be very excited if that fight happens. It would be the breakout fight Bute needs to establish himself on the world scene.

The point is that Pavlik can participate in less exciting match-ups than PW and STILL get a date on HBO. Thus the stuff about Pavlik "needing" to fight PW to stay on HBO is grade A manure.

(For the record, I think the Winky fight is a lose-lose and Martinez is definitely not an appropriate match-up. The other two are justifiable. But that's besides the point.)

it seems that if Williams fight falls thru Pav is off. They don't want that 9/26 date and P-dub has WBO champ lined up already.

Pav can compete against another champ, a unification but gets more money fight a not well established interim Light middle/welterweight.

    Market value.:yep

Well duh, Williams is the richer, better, more career-advancing fight for both guys, and it would be stupid and counter-productive for them to pass it up. But Pavlik would still be able to appear on HBO.

But none of those 4 fighters brings the money in the table then Pavlik facing Williams in which is pretty obviously what Hbo wants. You ignoring my reply to you booradley that hbo won't put up big money on Pavlik facing either one of those 4 fighters they pick like an example how much did hbo offer for Pavlik vs Sturm? 2 million in which is what 50/50 in which both will get 1 million dollars apiece? lol. Man you talking about Williams is not a draw but whats Sturm? Sturm is a draw? lol. Also if Pavlik is the draw as you say then how come hbo don't put up big money for Pavlik to face either of those fighters they pick huh?

No, but Williams is buy far the best option. A Pavlik/Winky fight simmered on the back burner for years, but the whoopin' he took from Paul took all the shine off of it. Balzsay is completely unknown in the states. Then there's Sturm and the low ball offer. Everyone talks about KP saying the money wasn't enough, but would Sturm really come to the US and take a beating for $1 million? Martinez wanted the fight, and Dibella wanted to get it for him. Arum and DiBella work okay together, so it's the easiest fight to make, but in my opinion it's also the least attractive option. It might be okay at some point in the future, but now is not the time.

Williams is the Ring #3 at 160, and P4P #10. He is also going to get brutally knocked out. I've watched his last few fights, and this elusive master boxer and ring general people keep yapping about is a figment of someone's imagination. Williams is the best option. There is enormous hype around the guy right now, and it is not a particulary hard fight for Pavlik.

It doesn't work like that. Pavlik is the bigger draw, but he's obviously not going to be raking it in if he fights an unknown. I mean, Pavlik made $2.5m for Gary Lockett!!

He's only had one fight in '09, against a boring mandatory. Naturally, HBO wouldn't have risked money on a guy just coming off the back of a beat-down by Hopkins.

i honestly don't think it is a good fight for P-dub. He hasn't even defined himself at 154 and he is already moving up. I don't think he can take a hard middleweight punch flush.

And i don't see how it would help pavlik to beat up a guy who made his name at 147 in his second fight at the weight. Like really that is a legacy fight?
