American HW contender, Chris Arreola, is scheduled to meet Ukranian, Vitali Klitschko, in a WBC Heavyweight title shot later this year.

Can Arreola take the HW crown back to America away from the clutches of the Klitschko monopoly?

Personally, I hope he does. The HW division needs guys like Arreola, Chambers and Haye at the moment and I genuinely hope he succeeds in his quest to become world HW champ.

The HW division needs the best, most disciplined guys to win.

Looking at Arreola he's neither. He has the chance of any underdog but I'll go with Vitali by TKO within 7.

    Not a chance.

Perhpas you noticed that the same Travis Walker who put Arreola on his ass just got owned by club fighter Manuel Quezada.

    I don't think so.

His conditioning concerns me the most, I don't think he has the gas tank to go long with a motor like Vitali, who always comes in in great shape and throws a lot of punches.

I think the reach difference and stamina difference will tell. Arreola will certainly try, his best chance is a shock early knockout after all because no way is he gonna outbox Vitali. But I think after a couple spirited rounds he gets jabbed into submission, reverts into wild haymakers, and falls to accumulation around the 7th.

Maybe so but IMO this is what the HW division needs at the moment. I HOPE he wins although I don't think he will. Boxing will benefit more if Arreola becomes champ, IMO:good.

Nope. Peter didn't win a second of his fight with Vitali, I can't see how a fatter, crapper version of him is going to do any better.

The "not in hell" option is missing.

How is Arreola a better champ for us boxing fans than Vitali? From what it seems Vitali is staying busy and tries to fight the best contenders available, not much one can criticize thus far after his comeback from a boxing fan point of view.

An American with the HW crown again would be good for the sport. You can't deny this. I am a fan of many fighters, including Vitali, but personally I think the crown going back to America is a very exciting prospect. Also an end to the monopoly days of not knowing who the real HW champ is could be over if Arreola does win. How would you like it if teams shared the superbowl or world series or Stanley cup or the basketball NBA league/ championship?

I'm with the consensus on this one anyway- I don't see Arreola winning but I'll still be cheering him on.

Well I'm cheering for the better man to win. If Arreola comes in very focused and brings on a great fight that is too much for Vitali then he deserves to win. I just don't see him being a better HW for boxing than Vitali is right now. I can't find anything wrong with Vitali's conduct.

Well that's an unusually decent response for the general forum so thanks for keeping it sensible:good. Personally, I want to see one HW champ; it's not good for the sport when the man on the street can't name who the HW champ of the world is, IMO. It's the blue ribband division of our sport and it's current ambiguity is one of the reasons boxing is struggling at the moment.

One way for unifying the belts would be for Vitali to lose to Arreola (which is a voluntary). Then Wlad could try to enforce a rematch against Arreola in a fight for WBO/IBF/WBC.

Then, down the line there could be a showdown for the winner with whoever is the WBA champ for a unified title. That belt however is in the hands of Don King and it remains to be seen if the Klitz will ever successfully do business with King.

Arreola would have to beat both Vitali and Wlad and then sign with King. That would probably work ;)
