As much as I loved Lenny and his life story. He was no boxer. He was a heavy-handed street fighter with little boxing skills. I'd say Tyson sparks him with a devastating left hook within the first 30 seconds. If you've seen Lenny fight he was really square on and had his chin hanging out to dry! It's a shame that the question has been asked really as Lenny was a legend and it seems that there is a lot of hate but at the end of the day we are all just being honest about the outcome if this had ever happened!
Everry pub in every town has an overweight hardman who reckons he could batter that Tyson/Lewis/Haye because "them boxers is all wankas". Quite why they didn't go in for earning millions from fighting these 'wankas' is never made clear.
What a ****in howl My mate Kevin Paddock beat Lenny way back in the 70's, about 5,9in was Kevin & he'd had a few pro fights at Middleweight, never in shape though & just loved his beer. This dickheads who are saying Lenny this & Lenny that are public bar romancer's, **** sucker fantisists, not even part of the crew or any crew these are the sort of wet wanks that go on about PIE & MASH or the ****in BLITZ or the KRAY'S keepin the streets safe 4 old ladies & all that DIAMOND GEEZAR & THERE'S ME HAND there's me HEART SHITE Tyson duz McClean in 10 seconds or as long as it takes 2 chin him
Lenny McLean was a brawler, who like most other people of his stature at the time, lived off a reputation! Don't get me wrong, Lenny was a hard guy, but Tyson would have obliterated him! There's levels & then there's levels! Lenny McLean should not even be mentioned in the same sentence as Mike Tyson!
I've always wondered just what the difference is between so-called hardmen, and pro-boxers. Are pro boxers just harder? Fitter? faster? more dedicated? All of the above? If Lenny McClean had trained and dedicated his life to boxing legitimately could he have been a contender? There was an article on here a few weeks back that claimed Roy Shaw could have been a world class Middleweight. Is that true? I grew up near a bloke that was well known as a hardcase (in the same league as the likes of McClean). A lot of people believed he could have been a contender, but although he had a few pro fights (including a British title fight) he never did much. Most people put it down to lack of application, I think he just wasn't THAT hard. As soon as he hit someone and they didn't fall over he wasn't quite sure what to do next.
unlike 'tough guys' pro boxers don't just swing for the fences. they have better technique, timing, coniditiong....the list goes on and on.to give you an idea, I feel someone like Jorge Arce would batter Lenny McLean
hi A british retired light-weight like Paul Burke or pat barrett would beat the crap out of McClean, and you call the local hardcase he never did much, he fought for the british title??, i would say that is a lot, in my opinion, and if it was sykes (local hardcase) he was supposed to fight both shaw and mcclean, and he would have won in a round too, never mind tyson, my opinion
A lot of mythos builds up around these hardmen, its easy to say "if he'd have taken up boxing..." and get carried away. Every town has a boxer/ footballer that could have been great "if only...", people get too carried away with what they see as wasted potential and, as their claims can't be disproved, its very easy end up going WAY OTT.
Big Rugby Welsh International Moriatty made a issue of Colin Jones and his missus in a Swansea PUB Moriatty went to hit Colin - but Jones got in first and smashed him with one punch Jones was way outgunned in terms of physical size - but he still samshed that ***** And that ***** was not just any big man - but a real pro athelte tough rugby player Jones was only a Welterweight
The big word is - 'professional'. Boxers are doing it seven days a week, for a living. You learn how to fight properly. You're also a lot fitter than the bar-room brawler. I read once that the average street fight lasts seven seconds - and that's the big difference. Once the hardman is blowing, he's finished. But they watch boxing on TV and think it's just a case of walking through the other guy's punches and hitting him. In the same way the world is fuil of bands whose singer got offered the job pf replacing Bon Scott in AC/DC, or Ozzy Osbourne in Black Sabbath, or.....
A top British bare knuckle boxer named Joe Savage took part in a second rate HW tournament in the USA back in the 80's and didn't last 2 minutes (literally).
