It's because according to the negotiations, pac would be shortening the WW limit for Cotto. So technically it's not a WW fight if that makes sense.
thats the price to pay if you wanna move up and play with the big-dawgs! ***** move is trying to dehydrate some one to your advantage!
as a pac fan i prefer pac fighting cotto at 147 where he would get maximum credit. but as a cotto fan, i would prefer cotto fighting pac at 145 so that there would be no excuses that he just beat pac because of the huge size advantage.
I don't think anyone will make an excuse, most of us didn't make an excuse about the margo fight until that plaster incident
Every seems to want this fight to take place at the WW limit of 147. Ok, are u also fine with Cotto weighing 160lbs on fight night, while Pac weighs somewhere around 148? That is my problem. Asking Cotto to come in at 145, is leveling the playing field somewhat for both fighters. I can give 2 shits about that WBOgus belt. Regardless whether Cotto weighs in at 145 or 147, as long as Cotto comes up anywhere north of 147 on fight night, and Pac beats him, Pac would've beaten a full fledge WW.
that's why i prefer this fight at 145 for cotto so that he can get more credit if he beats little pac.
I agree with Cotto. It's Cotto's call. If he doesn't want the wbo title on the line then no one should have a problem. If he had no issues with the catch weight or putting up the title then I wouldn't have anything negitive to say either, but Cotto is the champ and 145 is not the LIMIT! Even though 145 is within the Welter weight limit, the weight is being stipulated as part of the negotiations. So whatever Cotto wants to do regarding the title is up to him as the champion.
Isn't the money the issue why cotto does not want to put up the title? I read here somewhere about a $400,000 sanctioning fee that cotto will have to pay because pac aint ranked by WBO. Now if the fight were to take place at 147, will cotto still pay the fee??
Sacrificing 1-2lbs for the weigh in, in order to outweigh your opponent by 10-12lbs come fight time, isnt much of a sacrifice in my opinion. No matter what, Cotto will be the much bigger/stronger man come fight night.
At 147 I will not give credit to Cotto for a win. Too big a size advantage for Cotto. The win will be because he was too big and powerful rather than more talented or skilled. I can see his point about fighting for the title at 147 though, but I think it's an awful scenario to have Cotto still WW champ when he has lost in the WW division range (IF he loses that is)
