    You gotta be kidding! Even if you leave out amatuers Stevenson and Savon, who are CLEARLY more talented than that cheating fraud Ruiz, you've still got guys like Firpo, Godoy, Valdes, and Bonanvena, who were all solid contenders in a era of unified titles. And in many cases, far better eras that Ruiz "competed" in.

    That Ruiz won paper championships based on using illegal tactics, corruption and connections to powerful promoters hardly outweighs the accomplishments of those men. I'd put Valdes, Firpo, Bonavena ahead of him - and even Godoy, who at least fought WITHIN the rules!

    Wasn't Godoy famous for holding in a crouched position so that his head was lower than his opponent's waist? That would be illegal these days, if it wasn't back then...

    Just a question - for all your complaints about John Ruiz, what are your thoughts on Jack Johnson? From the footage I've seen of him, I'd say their styles are pretty similar.

    Hate your avater but I think youre dead right. Differant sport ofcourse but in terms of legend, these 2 guys stories can be heard all day.

    Stevenson v Ali would have been epic if it ever materialized.:-(

    I know of Bonavena, Firpo and a couple of the other older Latin Heavyweights, but the only I have ever seen in his prime is Ruiz. He has proven to be the best so far, Arreola has a chance to be the first Mexican-American Heavyweight champion. But that is a big if, I will not hold my breath.
