The quote shouldn't be taken out of context, this was actually a reply to the journalist who just told Cotto that Freddy Roach said Pacquiao was going to knock him out. And the whole title thing is just Cotto's view on it that if he won it at the 147 limit he will defend it at that very same weight. And yes I know there have been cathweights title fights before, but in case we forget, that's definitely the exception and not the norm, so why bring Cotto down for doing things the way he sees fits. I think it would be pure hipocrasy for those who say "what difference does two pounds make" to come now and say he's trying to take an unfair advantage. Cotto losing two more pounds holds a lot more "weight" in their perfomances than Pacquiao coming in at his normal comfortable training weight.

    Thats gold, good stuff Cotto..

As if the belt was ever going to go on the line at 145
anyway! Catchweights are a joke as is, let alone having
belts on the line - at a different pacific weight to what
the belt was won at in the first place.

Not sure Cotto wants a war though, going to be
    a hell of a fight.

Cotto won the belt in New York, that's much closer to the Atlantic than the Pacific...

    Great quotes from miguel

But what i dont get is why would people rather see a chess match with Pac - Marquez or Pac - Mayweather when this fight will be an absolute war. Lets face it, if Cotto had not fought margarito he would be p4p 3 right now. Its a great fight people!

    :happy

I love it... I was very happy to hear Cotto saying this stuff after Roach oppened his mouth. First of all, we all deserve a WAR and we should get it.

Second, Whatever they negotiate is their business but if Cotto feels that way about his tittle he has all the right to do so. His title says Welterweight Champion of the World and that division has a limit of 147 lbs not 145 lbs. Anyway, a free man should always speak their mind with no problem.

We all know here that to make a deal with PAC has been very difficult and it's not the first time. Cotto is just using PAC's desire of being a champ at a 7th weight division into his advantage and what's wrong with that? I bet you that PAC will end up allowing Cotto come in at 147 if he really wants that belt. If it's that important for PAC, PAC will allow it.

All the power to you Cotto!!! Anyway, Cotto will win... So far he has win the first battle.... the weight.

Looks like Pac may well be fighting for the belt... but Cotto won't be.

    1) Cotto agreed to fight at 145.
    2) 145 is Welterweight.
    3) Cotto has a WW strap of an organization that ranks Pac as #1 challenger.
    4) ????

He is not confident... He rather give up the belt than defend it. That says something.... He doesnt want Pac to make history out of him. So no, he is not that confident.
