re: pater's thread, can someone give me some info on this fighter. He sounds impressive...........how does he match up H2H and does he rank on an all-time top 20 Fly list??? I wonder if Pea has him in his flyweight tourney? Either way, any info is greaty appreciated :good
Good fighter, but will always remaina ??? due to weak opposition. Fight clips defenitly show some skill, but the opponents are weak... I got him perhaps top 50 Flyweight all time...
He was an excellent technician. As a stand-up boxer-puncher I don't think many Flyweights were better. The slicker, more fleet-footed guys like Canto and Zapata could've probably gotten the best of him, though. He was as steady and calm a fighter as you'll ever see, and he did apply steady pressure. Problem is, he wasn't able to set himself well enough when constantly on the move. He was very good at cutting off the ring, but he was never a pressure fighter per se. He was just a steady, calculating boxer-puncher, one that was perhaps too willing to acquiesce to a boxing match when he could've turned up the heat and let his hands go. He was an excellent combination puncher, very accurate and hardly a wasted punches. The problem was, against pure boxers and movers, a cautious, calculated style often leads to a very tame fight that sways in their favor. Such was the case with Arbachakov, but only against the very best of that ilk would he lose more often than not against. Very well rounded, intelligent boxer.
