    Muhammad Ali " Jack Dempsey Is A Joke " ?

     you know what screw this....

    muhammad ali is a joke........

    he sits around calling legends like dempsey a joke, talks about how this or that fighter had no foot work, then says another swung like a washerwoman, talks about his guard....etc etc

    speaks of proper boxing etc buts lets examine this guy for a min....

    kept his lands low....much like the old timers he makes fun off....

    did not punch properly....often times he would slap, almost no body work....did not vary his punches...almost everything was jab or straight right
    who the hell is he make fun of dempsey's hooks....

    yes he did have good foot work but so did some of this guys, saying people like walcott did not have good footwork....what because he did not run from guys....
    also there is many ways to have good foot work, side to side movement, in and out footwork(which east euro fighters are known for),cutting of the ring....


    i see dempsey doing different stuff, getting in using head movement, moving around, body work, nicely timed left hooks....
    while can say ali always did the same stuff
    use the jab(which by the way was often a slap)and mix it with a straight right hand....
    and talk **** from 10 feet away....

    he makes fun of these old timers, and then after putting them down...he pretends to respect them....


    also when you show clips of ko's you would often see types of things looking sloopy because one guy is hurt and the other is going for the kill...
    ratherly do you see smooth boxing in this type of thing......

    He didn't directly call Dempsey a joke, he thought the Dempsey-Willard fight was a joke when Dempsey stood over Willard and pummeled him with wild punches.

    Ali said that he can't criticize Louis for keeping his hands low because he does it himself but Louis didn't use any footwork in order to get away with it.

    He said that Tunney, Charles and Walcott had good footwork. Walcott by the way put on the greatest display of running (more so than Ali) in the first Louis fight (which was otherwise a beautiful performance by him).

    I think the problem is that Ali likely didn't have the access to all the films of the old timers. Watching Dempsey-Willard, Louis-Schmeling and Johnson-Ketchel won't give you a complete picture of these great fighters.

    he did say that about that walcott and charles but at other times he said they were good but no footwork. also i am sure he had seen other films of these old time fighters....many other people did so i am sure so did

    It was not so easy to get those films in the 1960's and 70's.

    I wouldnt dare say that this many years after his death.

    I think that Ali for all his merits as a fighter was not good at deciphering the Charlie Chaplin era fight films. Also boxers will always rate other boxers and punchers will always rate other punchers.

    It should also be noted that Ali despite his big mouth did respect other fighters.

    He got into verbal sparring matches with the older Joe Louis but he still gave him a lot of money.

    Wow, one must not be able to listen very well.

    Ali never made fun of or put down Dempsey. He merely stated that he felt he could have beat him.

    Talk about sensitive.

    hey powerpuncher....i am a boxer and know boxing history quite well, so unlike yourself i actually understand boxing.....

    and look for a rich guy getting videos of fights was not hard in 60's and 70's...

    i am not too senstive actually but ali putting down all this guys....from baer to dempsey is annoying....
    espically when he should not be the on e to talk about techique....


    interesting that ali is allowed to talk like this and people say it's great etc
    but when someone like mayweather or toney does it
    people say they are talking **** and are cocky....

    Neither was a joke. Ali would have probably defeated Dempsey, but it wouldn't have been an easy win, and both would have been taken to the hospital after the fight...in my opinion.

    I think that's because Ali has walked the walk...Mayweather and Toney are active fighters and active fighters never get the same slack old ring legends do. Maybe in 30 years they will. :good
