I don't understand the issue at all. The belt is for a certain weight class, which means it already HAS a limit. This is the limit for the weight class, so when fighting for that weightclasses title, you only bring that weight, and not less. If you want the titlist to go down from that weight, you cannot fight for his title. Simple as that.

Didn't Pacquiao said few days ago that he don't mind the title belt not being on the line cause it's the fight the fans want to see? And didn't Pacquiao said since it's a catch weight that title belt shouldn't be on the line? If he said out of his own mouth then Pacquiao need to stfu.

The only way the title belt will be on the line if Cotto was offer 16 million dollars plus ppv bonus like Hopkins got in the De la hoya fight but that won't happen cause Pacquiao isn't close to the draw that Oscar brings.

I think I did read something (that was transcribed) from Pacquiao saying something along those lines. I just remember Roach saying at one point that he didn't care what weight the fight was at and that it could be at 200 pounds for all he cared, because he knows he has the better fighter. Then him and the Pacquiao camp demand the fight at 143...it winds up being 145. Now, he says....titles are meanless but we want one. Dude is starting to contradict himself more then Fraud does! Quite frankly, I'm sick of hearing about this argument but I'm glad Cotto is standing his ground.

I NEED to correct alot of you on these issues.

ANYTHING BETWEEN 140.01 AND 147 IS A WELTERWEIGHT FIGHT.

PAC AND COTTO ARE FIGHTING AT WELTERWEIGHT !!!!!!!!

Pac has every right to demand the title be on the line.

Pac also has more options. He could still fight Mosley at 140 for what could be an easier fight, equal cash and a weight that suits him better.

Its funny how everyone thinks Cotto should just concede to every one of Manny's demands but see no fault in Manny's request. For all of those who claim 2 pounds is really nothing and would/should still justify a title fight....go tell that to Manny. I believe 147 is just 2 lbs above his desired 145. If its really NOT that big a difference why wouldn't he just fight for the welterweight title with the full welterweight limitations. I mean it seems most people dont have an issue with the belt being on the line at 145 since the welterweight division is between 141-145, but would the sentiment be the same if Manny was demanding a fight at 141? The arguement would essientally be the same. A catchweight of 141 would technically be within the welterweight limits.

I think Cotto is doing the right thing. He is the Champion making the lesser portion of the purse, with everything to lose and nothing to win. If he beats Pac, especially of he does so in dominating fashion, everyone will just claim he was too big for Manny. If he goes the distance and edges out a SD or UD people will say he wasn't able to finish a smaller fighter, and if he loses he might as well start looking for new locations for his gas stations in PR. The title would be meaningless if he loses, but being able to use it as a maybe some leverage to get Bob to sweeten his pot is the right thing to do for him. Furthermore if Manny is gonna break/set this record I don't believe it would be deserved or right for him to win it in a catchweight. To me that comparable to winning streaks that start at the end of one season and carry over to the next. Its kinda..., but not really.

If "ANYTHING BETWEEN 140.01 AND 147 IS A WELTERWEIGHT FIGHT"

THEN Cotto can and should weigh in whatever the **** weight he wants to! This is not that hard to understand!

Also....Mosley could never make 140, I don't care what he says. And if he could...Manny would get zero props for beating Shane at 140. AND, a fight with Shane is NOT equal cash. Cotto has a much bigger fanbase and brings a lot more $ to the table.

Then Manny will win the 7th overrated title right? Look it's simple the title belts are in a limit which is up to that weight limit. If it's not in the weight limit then that Fighter don't need to defend that title. Like i said many times if Pacquiao wants the title belt that badly then fight Cotto at a welterweight LIMIT!!!!!

    No.

    There is no such rule.

Bernard fought Oscar for his titles below 160. That was in the contract and within the rules.

    Learn your history.

And by the way, Mosley is less popular then Cotto, and that is why Manny could get a bigger piece of the pie, not to mention that Mosley is willing to give up everything else for this fight, that makes it close to equal cash.
