This content is protected Date: 31 Jul : Author: This content is protected : Category: NORMAL NEWS : Views: 80 :Comments: 0 Commonwealth Heavyweight Champion Sam Sexton reckons he has already won the first battle against Martin Rogan before he steps into the ring with him on October 9th at Belfast's Odyssey Arena. Sexton met head-to-head with Rogan yesterday for the first time since their fight in May to promote the rematch, and the Belfast brawler was still fuming about the controversial ending that saw the fight halted by the referee in the eighth round just after Sexton had spat out his gumshield. At yesterday's volatile press conference Rogan repeatedly smashed his fists on the table and launched into a verbal tirade against the Norwich man. Sexton said, "Rogan has got a screw loose up top and I think I've got him wound up so much that he's doesn't know what he's doing or saying," "He was just plain *******s, banging the table with his hands and rambling on and on about wanting to crush me and paint me on the canvas. "At one point his mouth was foaming up and I thought his eyes were going to pop out of his head!" "Boxing is about controlled aggression and if he's lost it at a press conference then he's going to lose it again on October 9th and I'm going to be in control. "I read in the press that I was left shaken afterwards which made me laugh, I came away feeling that had a scored a big victory. "Rogan is a bully, he tried to bully me in the fight and didn't work, he tried to bully me at the press conference and it didn't work. A bully gets what he deserves and that's a good pasting. He added: "Now our press conference is out of the way I don't have to see him until October so I can just concentrate on my training and get myself in the best shape ever." The build up here is getting better and better. Com'on Rogan, smash Sexton to a pulp:happy:happy:happy
Lindsay could Cruz to World Title Martin Lindsay could be crowned champion of the World before the end of the year, after Banner Promotions Irish agent Tommy Egan was authorized to offer the Belfast fighter a shot at IBF Featherweight World Champion Cristóbal Cruz. Former Irish amateur champion and current British Featherweight champion, Lindsay (15-0) could upgrade his British strap for a world belt if he accepts the offer and takes on Cruz (50-37-11) in Mexico this coming November. Egan had previously, on behalf of Banner Promotions, offered the winner of Lindsay and Paul Applebys British title decider a shot at Cruzs world crown, an offer which has this week been confirmed by Banner Promotions. The dotted line has yet to be signed and negotiations are at an early stage, but Egan, who has recommended Lindsay to Banner President Art Pelullo and has been in contact with Lindsays manager John Rooney, confirmed the offer is concrete and that Banner Promotions are very eager to make the fight. I have been authorized by Art Pelullo President of Banner Promotions to offer Martin Lindsay a shot at IBF featherweight world champion Cristóbal Cruz. The fight would take place in Mexico in November. The mouthwatering class is subject to agreement but the offer is genuine and concrete. Banner Promotions are ready to get this fight on. Martin is terrific box fighter. He is very clever and poses a deadly left hook. He has a punchers chance of beating anybody. In fact he could be the best finisher in the featherweight division. Martin is ranked number six in the world by the IBF and is the only European in the top 10. Now Banner Promotions have offered him the chance to become number one in the world. This has the makings of a fantastic fight and it excites me to say we could have another Irish World Champion by the end of the year, Egan enthused.
Jonny Stapleton British Boxing Promoter Frank Maloney has claimed WBA World super bantamweight champion Bernard Dunne has been miss managed, as camp Dunne failed to negotiate a voluntary world title defense with European Champ Rendall Munroe. Maloney also suggested everyone in team Dunne wanted the fight bar the champion’s promoter and decision maker Brain Peters. The experienced promoter, who looks after the affairs of Ireland’s Olympic bronze medalist Darren Sutherland, publicly offered Dunne €200,000 to fight ‘The Bin Man’ and was willing to do battle in front of the raucous Dunne support in Dublin. However negotiations for Dunne versus Munroe, a fight Dunne and Peters perused before the Irish hero dramatically defeated Ricardo Cordoba earlier this year, never got past phase one. Maloney now believes, Dunne has to fight dangerous mandatory challenger Poonsawat Kratingdaenggym for a smaller payday and stressed the fans are missing out too. “We made Bernard Dunne a couple of very good offers. We made private offers but went public with the offer of €200,000. However we had no correspondence from Brian Peters. Not one email or phone call. People from team Dunne intimated they were very interested in the fight, but they said Brian has the final say. Bernard Dunne versus Rendall Munroe would have been a much bigger fight. It was one the fans would want and had a little bit of everything. You would have had the Ireland England thing going on. The fact Munroe beat Kiko Martinez, the man who dethroned Dunne, also makes a little more interested. Dunne versus Munroe was a bigger fight with a much bigger draw. Dunne, who I think is a great fighter, now faces a very tough and risky clash. The Thai fighter will pose a lot of problems and Dunne might not make as much money as he would have if he faced Munroe. I think he has been mishandled and managed.” Maloney explained rekindling his war of words with Peters, before revealing the potential could go ahead if both fighters emerge unscathed from their next bouts. Maloney also revealed Sutherland will next enter the ring in October. “I would love to make that fight and it could still happen if both fighters take care of the mandatory challenges. Darren Sutherland will return to action on October hopefully October 16th. We wanted to have him on the under card of Dunne Munroe that would have been great for Ireland.”
I think it was in the Belfast Telegraph that reported Sexton appeared rattled and shaken. Sexton will need to get into better shape than the last time as he was ****ed after 6 or 7 rounds.
I reckon Lindsay should fight Patrick Hyland first and treat it as an eliminator of some sort.... as pajo is ranked from this month with the IBF...(they will have the updated rating on their site shortly) a fight like that would be mouth watering on the Rogan-Sexton undercard or even Bernard Dunnes undercard
Adam, any news on the next Hyland card, I have to get to one, I was on holiday during the last one.....
Exactly...........So i dont think im on my own here saying the 2 irish fighters should get it on for an IBF Eliminator fight....... No matter who wins we are still going to have another IRISHMAN fighting for a world title
Danny O'Connor's House of Pain Friday July 31- A proud Irish-American with the hopes of New England boxing fans on his shoulders, Danny OConnor is rapidly moving up the junior welterweight ranks while introducing his opponents to his own House of Pain. A 23-year old southpaw known for an intriguing mix of ring savvy, boxing ability and power, OConnor was a high school wrestling champion who began his stint in the sweet science in 2004.. He went on to win four New England Golden Gloves titles, a National Golden Gloves crown and even scored a dominating victory over 2008 Olympic Gold medalist Felix Diaz of the Dominican Republic. And though OConnor would drop a hard-fought decision to Javier Molina in the 2008 Olympic trials, the 141-pounder was selected as the US team alternate and he traveled to Beijing for the 2008 Games. Once the Olympics were over, OConnor began on his road to glory as a professional, stopping Jose Guerrido in just two rounds on September 17th. He went on to add two more wins to his ledger as he decisioned Anthony Woods and Gregorio Jimenez in successive bouts. In February of 2009, OConnor made his ESPN debut, even impressing Friday Night Fights commentators Joe Tessitore and Teddy Atlas in his win over Jamar Saunders. He went on to stop Charles Wade in a single round less than a month later, and he then shutout Travis Hartman over four rounds in April, scoring two knockdowns in the process. OConnors last bout on June 27th saw him score another shutout, this one over his toughest foe to date, 30 fight veteran Sebastien Hamel. Its just another sign that the OConnor era is about to begin in the 140-pound weight class. It amazes me sometimes that hes only 24 years old, because he shows the poise of a veteran in the ring, says OConnors promoter Leon Margules, Executive Director of Seminole Warriors Boxing. Add in his crowd-pleasing style and charisma, and Dannys definitely got the potential to be a star in the coming years.
I was at the post fight Presser and it was Sexton that was visably shaken and didnt really remember what happened in the 8th round! He deleted me as a friend on facebook because i pointed out what happened in the 8th round he said have you fogotten what happened in the 7th? and i said well if you mean Rogan turned away from you when you were showering punches on him and you got a warning from the ref for a rabbit punch. Then rogan spat his gumshield out to buy himself more time are you had punished him with several big shots. then yes I have forgotten what happened in the 7th round
do you not like pajo...not only do you want him to fight a much superior fighter in lindsay...but you also want them to box in belfast in front of lindsays mad fans
