I understand about making weight, but this guy is a champion and he's came in under 147 before so it shouldn't matter. He already knows what he has to do to make the weight and 2 extra pounds won't matter. He was 146 when he fought Clottey ... He can rehydrate fully if he eats right during training and doesn't balloon up to 175 between fights. Its called discipline ... How the hell does Bernard Hopkins do it? ... How does Ricky Hatton, Joe Calzaghe, Winky Wright, Paul Williams do it ... those guys shed anywhere between 15 and 20 pounds before fights.
Yes and no. I don't know any pro boxers that fight at their walking weight (out of shape weight). Cotto usually weights around 154, almost all fighters sit in the sauna to cut some pounds, or do some light exercises. Now try pushing 2 pounds out of your body in a few minutes. I don't even lose two pounds when I do 2 hours of boxing practice and I'm soaked.
Nope, he can't weight more than 14 pounds of the limit. And since 145 would be the limit, it would end up being 12 pounds for him.
why doesn't Pac fight berto or shane at 147. Cotto IS in the driver's seat. And you know what, those fighters would put their belts on the line at 145
Nah im looking at it from Cottos point of view too. Do I fight Pacquiao and put my title on the line, have a chance to beat the best boxer in the world, make the most money, or fight Berto or Clottey??? I think I'll put that title on the line and fight Pac
when did this happen? Fighters have came in 20 pounds over limits before ... you only weight in once the second weigh in is optional. you know how much Cotto weighs in between fights? 165-175 pounds what are you talking about bro?
Only other person he can make the kinda money against is Mayweather and we all know that Arum isn't trying to make that fight happen any time soon. It seems like Cotto does this **** before he loses ... he did the same thing before that Margarito beating.
That belt is nothing but leverage in Cotto's negotiating scheme to get more money out of the deal. Cotto could care less about that belt but he is using it to his advantage. In the end i believe the belt will be on the line and Pac will have his shot at at 7th class Championship.
Theres been plenty of fights for title at catch weight. PPL act like this is the first time or something...
The body fluctuates and can lose upto 5 lbs in a day, depending on what you ate too:yep, making weight doesnt mean draining yourself exactly to the point that you just achieve 147. Now if you mean losing 2 lbs under that will make it dangerous for the fighter, then its about time to move up.
sounds like cotto senses this won't be a good fight for him then. it's beginning to look like a duck without looking like one.
The body produces on average 4.4 pounds of waste a day. Now you are constantly eating. So you won't really notice the weight change, it's not like you poop out 4 pounds, it's throughout the whole day. Which you gain back if you're drinking and eating.
I honestly don't get this whole "screw Cotto then and miss a huge payday etc" crap. The title wasn't on the line when they were negotiating and Pac even went out and said that he was ok with it. Now all of a sudden it's a huge problem?? This whole Pacman situation with his fans are worse than an angry premenstrual woman. :verysad
