B-hop is a great fighter, no doubt. I see people on here claim he would lose to Hopkins and i honestly dont understand how people think this. I've recently re-watched Nard's career and im still at a loss. Yes B-hop has way more dedication which has allowed him better career longevity against a higher class of opponent but prime for prime, no way. I think it all boils down to this, Nard tries to spoil and hold, which allows James to bust him up on the inside. Toney in his prime basically does everything Nard does jurt better.
Brother, if you think that Nard in his prime was a "spoil and hold" type of fighter, I'm not sure which Nard you are talking about.
Hopkins was better at fighting on the outside, but other than that I agree with you; they do do a lot of the same things but Toney did them better prime 4 prime.
First off you don't do these fighters any justice by making a thread like this. Prime for prime? You have 2 mutherfukin all time greats you're talking about here. Both of which outclassed everyone in their prime by a WIDE margin. These two were the golden era of middleweight boxing to this fkin day. In their prime, these two had hands full of lightning and thunder and didn't need to take tie up. beautiful speed and power and technique. I had never seen Toney hug a man in my life.
You miss my point, against a PRIME toney, ANY era bernard hopkins would be reduced to holding and spoiling because nothing else would of worked for him(prime hopkins is no prime rjj) and once he started using those tactics he gets busted up on the inside
I just see it the opposite way, Toney was a great fighter but gets overrated. Hopkins was a very good offensive fighter in his prime. He gave Roy Jones his most competitive fight at middleweight, Toney was easy for Roy. Toney did get a gift decision against Tiberi and lost to Tadzi, two fighters that Hopkins would school like he schooled Pavlik.
I dont remember prime toney outclassing rjj and prime bernard suffered from a serious lack of opposition, get a clue noob!
:goodExactly... Even a prime Jones didn't "own" a green B-Hop, but a prime Jones did "own" a prime Tony. I know styles make fights, but B-Hop is a challenge for anybody, that straight right he developed is something beautiful.
If Michael Nunn's offense worked well enough to lead for eicht rounds against Toney, Hopkins's might not be reduced to holding and spoiling... I think you remember a few of Toney's brilliat fights where he outslicked opponents completely and forget that a number of fighters did pretty well against him.
Oh, okay. I see your point now. I don't agree with it, but I see what you are trying to say. Thanks for the clarification. I don't see Hopkins being reduced to holding and spoiling because I don't see Toney pressuring Hopkins to the point where that is necessary. But it's an interesting matchup to consider.
by the way i see this as the toney that destroyed berkley vs the hopkins that destroyed pavlik( ive never seen nard look better and finding himself able to use leonard style taunts)
