I admit he looked awsome in that fight.... but he looked awsome in plenty others too, ala against glen johnson... beautiful performance, as well as the obvious tito fight. My take is nobody is getting owned any time these two fight, too great... too evenly matched imo, but i think Hopkins figures out a way to win, imo.... hes a better outside fighter then toney, and once a few rounds go by and he realises his strengths and weaknesses inside the ring with toney, imo he starts to capatalise on them. just imo
Wrong. Hopkins is more versatile as a fighter, he can truely go forwards or back. Toney can only wait for you and fight in the pocket, he can't really truely go forward very well because his footwork is slow, and he can't really fair well as an outboxer because his jab is not consistent and is usually only used to measure a power punch. Hopkins would always find a way to win that fight because of his feet, and the versatility to do whatever it takes.
People dont understand Bernard in his prime waz an unstoppable force,In B-hops Prime, nobody beats him...In my eyes I say only 3 great fighters in the history of the sport who has a great chance of beating Bernard in his prime and that is Marvin Hagler,Sugar Ray Robinson and Roy Jones Jr....Who beat Hopkins but still struggled But other then those 3 fighters, every other fighter gets beaten easily Prime 4 Prime against Hopkins James Toney waz an animal in his prime,a great fighter no doubt about that,But I see Bernard winning a competitive, but clearly UD win ova Toney 118-110
Because I disagree with your initial hypothesis? Way to go, another extraordinarily open-minded poster, and a well reasoned argument to suit.
At 160, I'd go with Hopkins by competitive decision. Toney is best when his opponent comes at him so he can counter. Hopkins is very smart, so he's going to not give Toney that sort of fight and rather use movement and box. Toney was quicker on his feet in his younger days so he'd hold his own in that area, but still I don't think it'd be enough to win. Toney was rather inconsistent at 160, although he looked brilliant in the first McCallum fight (which I thought he won, and thought he lost the rematch)
we're talkin about atg's around the 168 area. Sorry if i dont include kessler in this, being that he fought one elite fighter and lost. When he wins a tournement including zero elite fighter perhaps his stock will have risen, perhaps?
So if a poster doesn't have an avatar of someone like say Roy Jones (like yourself) then there opinion is invalid?!?:huh
