truth about marciano

Boy would it be great not to see a Rocky Marciano thread appear every 5 seconds.
As somebody already stated Marciano best wins were over guys smaller than him, older than him, or washed up. Give it a break, Marciano was a joke

I have tried to convince you that this was his best performance instead of the Williams fight.

 

So much of a joke that he was never beaten and is a point of daily obsession for you decades after his death.

 

LoL Janitor Marciano is white, that is why people worship him. Rocky Marciano did lose. 1 time to Roland LaStarza and 1 time to Ted Lowry. Foreman, Ali, Lewis, Bowe, Frazier would of went undefeated fighting the bums that Rocky Marciano fought.

Janitor I am not the idiot who makes threads about Marciano every day. People like you do. Rocky Marciano could knockout god based on people like you. I am sick of some 180 pound bum who best wins came against 40 year old has beens being mentioned all the time.

 

My feeling is that Marciano's opposition was for the most part sub-adequate and nothing to recommend him for greatness. However I feel he had elements of greatness in his fighting make-up that covered his inadequacies.

He showed what I think are elements of greatness in his fights against far superior, and older boxers, Moore, Charles and Wolcott. He won those fights because he possessed one of the elements of greatness. That would be willingness to die rather than to lose.

Marciano did not possess much boxing talent by my understanding of the term, but he was like a wrecking ball in his approach to the sport. The wrecking ball might knock the building down after a few passes, but it would look like this when it was done.

If this is the case, then whos opposition is good enough to recommend them for greatness?

Marciano is 6-0 with 5 knockouts against Hall Of Famers. Each of those Hall of Famers was at least ranked # 2 or higher in the world going into there bout with Marciano. Rocky also went 11-0 with 10 knockouts against top 10 rated opposition.

I think it needs to be recognized that 'greatness' is a term that is relative to the time spoken of.

John L. Sullivan was considered great. How would he fare against a journeyman heavyweight today? Bob Fitzsimmons was considered one of the heaviest punchers of all time by the press and boxing analysts of the day.

I do not think that Marciano's record can compare with that of Ali. The men Ali fought were much better, IMO.

This may have had to do with the development of training and styles that is always undergoing transformation.

I would have loved to seen a match between Ali and Marciano. The closest we can come is to Ali / Frazier 1-2-3. I recall a radio computerized fight in 1967 which had Marciano winning against Ali in an all time greatest series.

Ali had no problem over 15 with Chuvalo. But Chuvalo was no Marciano. Marciano had guts in all his gears.

Nobodies competetion is comparable to Ali's. However, Marciano's resume is equal to and arguably superior to Frazier's if you exclude Ali from that list. And that's a guy of the same area. Marciano's resume is better than numbers or the oppositions age would indicate.
