Shavers had a higher KO percentage fighting the better fighters so I would say he was a better finisher.

Justify the fact that Shavers fought and beat better opposition.

Being big and black does not get you a higher ranking historicaly.

Justify Shavers oponents being better than Baers based on what they proved in the ring.

George Foreman also had a better KO percentage than Louis so apparently he was the better finisher or was a much much harder puncher.

Janitor I asked this before and I will ask again. Name one 205 pound plus pound modern sized heavyweight Joe Louis fought? Did Billy Conn a 170 pound fighter not back Joe Louis up through out their fight? Joe Louis landed numereous punchers on Conn before finally stopping him.

Well he iced 8 lineal champions and beat 34 ranked contenders.

Thre is no heavyweight champion outside of Ali who can even come close to matching this quality of competition.

How many of those guys were black fighters? How many of those guys were modern 205 pound plus heavyweights? 34 ranked contenders? LoL you are pretty dumb arent you? You know being ranked means nothing? Somebody has to be ranked in the top 50 at all times you know. Adilson Rodrigues was ranked number 2 in the world at one point in time but does that mean he is a all time great? Rankings like that mean nothing.

Being black doesnt mean shyt actually, The best fighters in the world now are white period. But you have to fight both white and black fighters to be great in my eyes.

"Name one 205 pound modern heavyweight plus pound sized heavyweight Joe Louis fought"

Janitor is answering most of your questions, but I just have to jump in about this one. Well, there is Primo Carnera (6' 6" 260lbs-a former champ, Abe Simon-6' 4" 255 lbs (fought him twice), Buddy Baer 6' 6 1/2" 250 lbs (fought him twice), Max Baer (6' 3" 210 lbs (possibly closer to 6' 4" and a former champ), Stanley Poreda 6' 2" 208 lbs. All these men were rated in the top five or better at one time or another. Louis knocked them all out, as well as the fat 233 lb Tony Galento.

Prime Carnera sucked. Abe Simon sucked , Buddy Baer got knocked out by my mom. Max Baer had no skill and let me answer you Foreman knocked out Ron Lyle who was about 6'3 or so and 225 and Foreman also knocked out John Dino Dennis who was 6'4. I believe Foreman knocked out big guy who was in superman 1 and 2.

Joe Louis fought better opponsition than Foreman did? Give me a break. Joe Louis fought guys like Jersey Joe Walcott who was a cruiserweight. Foreman fought the bigger and better opponents and still had a better knockout percentage not to mention the fact Joe Louis and Dempsey both stated they never seen anybody punch as hard as Foreman

I keep saying 205 because the is the miniman size for a modern heavyweight right? There are weight classes for a reason. Not because some fighters are above it. Shavers and Baer are what this thread is about. Shavers is highly overrated like I said but he fought better people than Baer who is also highly overrated.

You bring up the fact that Foreman lost to Young like it means something? Joe Louis never lost then right? Everybody loses. Foreman fought 81 pro abouts and was only floored 4 times i believe. To Ali a hall of famer from fatigue. Young a slick boxer who could of been great because of a heat stoke. 2 times to Ron Lyle who is highly underrated. Louis on the other hand was dropped by 180 pound fighters. You can say he got up and won but the point is he was knocked down.

As opposed to the dashing speed and skill of Ron Stander, Ron Lyle, Bob Stallings, Tex Cobb, Bernardo Mercado, etc., etc. ...

Baers about as safe a pick as you can have against a puncher like Earnie Shavers. Baer by KO.

I actually think Louis was the greatest puncher that ever lived. However, I doubt he hit Baer with 250 power punches in their fight ... that being said recently re-watched Shavers-Lyle and agree with most here that Baer outlasts him and stops him .. opinion changed ...
