All these pictures remind me why I love this sport. Just look at the beauties Marquez, Pacquiao, and Jones are sporting. And those three fought on win, lose, or draw.
If you receive a contusion of the eyeball from a headbutt which results in partial loss of vision yet fight on, it continues to bleed more every time the area is hit, and you lose your eyesight. Clear no decision, no quitting required.
Gatti just rolled over in his grave after what Nate did by trying to weasel out of a fight by quitting over a headbutt.
Yes, that is Cotto. Makes me respect him even more for continuing his fight against Clottey. I remember he winked at the ringside doctor as if to say 'I got this ****. Let's get it on'.-made me grin like a madman.
If any of them couldn't see because of an EYE issue. Not blood or swelling, I wouldn't hate on either of them. Nate did not stop from the cut, he stopped because he could not see out of his eye. And he was seeing spots. EDIT - The fight was stopped by the physician because Nate said he could not see and because he had bleeding behind the eye. The cut was not the reason the fight was stopped.
The Doctor in the ring stated Campbell had bleeding behind the eye. It appears Nate Campbell has a possible partially detached retina and most likely he suffered a Vitreous Hemmorhage. A vitreous hemorrhage occurs when retinal blood vessels rupture and bleed into the vitreous humor. These hemorrhages result from leakage from abnormal, weak blood vessels and are associated with diabetic retinopathy, trauma and other factors. The immediate consequence of a vitreous hemorrhage is a reduction in the amount of light that can pass through the normally clear vitreous humor to the retina. The effects of a hemorrhage can be limited to a few dark spots in vision or, in the case of a severe vitreous hemorrhage, can result in completely obscured vision. Depending on the severity of the vitreous hemorrhage, it may take several months or significantly longer for the body to reabsorb the blood and for the patient to regain vision. In addition to obstructing the patient's vision, a vitreous hemorrhage often prevents physicians from seeing into the back of the eye to diagnose or treat the cause of the hemorrhage. If extensive or repeated bleeding occurs, fibrous tissue or scarring can form on the retina, which can lead to a detachment of the retina and permanent vision loss or blindness.
After reading more. Even though Campbell wanted to stop the fight because he couldn't see right. The doctor was going to stop it anyway after seeing the blood behind the eye.
Campbell was cheated. I am tired of criminal boxing. The ref was on the take, that wino out of the alley! It was a headbutt, no doubt about it. Campell was cheated.
It was quite evident that Campbell was not going to win this one. Bradley looked like the strong, faster, and more active man within those 6 minutes, and I highly doubt it would've changed through the fight. For all the nonsense he had been talking about being a man who goes in and fights anyone to then pleading with his corner to stop the fight makes him look bad. Granted he couldn't see, but how many fighters in the past have been in the same situation and dug deep. ****, if guys acted like that Ali would've never beat Liston - he went in blind for a whole round! Lets not forget Campbell was taking a beating in that 2nd round, maybe because of blindess (in one eye) or maybe because he wouldn't let up with parading about the eye. He got hurt in that 2nd round and I know refs out there that would be quick and jump in because he wasn't throwing back. BTW, didn't Juan Diaz fight Campbell with a bad cut over the eye and keep fighting? From what I saw tonite, I don't know what Galaxy would represent him as The Warrior.
Juan Diaz fought with a cut over his eye but he could see. Campbell had an eye injury and had bleeding in the back of his eye. Even if he wanted to continue the doctor would of stopped it.
Good post mate:good I wish people would stop giving him so much stick for quitting. Ive read on numerous sights about how he said he could only see black in one eye and how it was caused by bleeding behind his eye. He made the right decision, this could have left him blind in one eye. Im sure he would have fought on if it was just a cut with blood pouring into his eye.
