OK let the rulebook settle it. what does the rules actually say with regards to a fighters weight in a welterweight fight?

im thinking 147 but thats just a rough guess lol :D

my argument is based by going with the rulebook so your not going to catch me out here.

the rule book says anything UP TO 147lbs

so technically both fighters could weigh 100lbs and still ocntest the title (i know medical rules wouldnt let this happen nowadays.)

But wasn't the original arguement something like, 'why should Cotto have to way below the limit'?

it grew legs this argument, keep up. I agreed with everyone that Cotto should stand firm and make the fight at 147lbs, we all agreed on that then we got arguing on this.

also lads take a look at my Brit Forum - what do you think thread

stop doing colours im colour blind.

    1. It does it is the same scenario as what we are discussing.

    2. Your worst nightmare :good

    3. Sorry i misworded my writing the Berg fight was signed as a Lightweight bout.

    4. Was Cotto vs Pacquiao a non title bout?

    5. Both fighters are making the correct weight - under 147lbs

    6. Everything i have argued has been backed up, its not irrational. Its not as though im making things up im basing it with arguments and facts to back me up. Irrational is calling someone a wee fud. :good

As for stupid you might have got me.

A welterweight fight is between 141-147.

147 is the upper weight limit, it is not the EXACT weight that fighters MUST fight at.

DLH fought Hopkins at a catchweight for the Middleweight Championship.

exactly, but a fighter cannot be forced to defend his 147lb belt at 145 :good

I agree. But he should just man-up and do it anyway.

They are both being petty, IMO.

And its not a 147 belt, its a welterweight belt. If he agreed to fight at 145, then he agreed to fight at 145. It's still welterweight.

No its not its anything up to 147lbs.

    another example of the catchweight.

i agree with that but IF Cotto signs to fight at 145lbs then he should defend his title as it is within the Welterweight weight and he has a title in that division

It's anything upto 147 so if Pac wants the belt then Cotto should be allowed to weigh in at 147 if he wants.

You know what **** this thread.
Greg for the last time a welterweight fight will no be sanctioned if one fighter is 147 and the other is 139 you tit.

hopkins agreed to fight for the title at that weight because he wanted the money and it was easy for him to make the weight and easy for him to beat DLH.
Cotto struggles to make Welter so Pac and Roach are trying to force this upon him for their own advantage. Fair enough but the buck stops with Cotto. they want the title they fight at the right weights. they dont, then make a catch weight.

El Cepillio - Your right its the Welterweight belt. Well done. Welter weight is upto 147 ! Therefore Cotto gets to fight upto that weight when he defends his title.

Roach and Pac knew Cotto wasn't putting his belt up at 145 but signed anyway. now they're trying to pull the deal from under Cotto's feet and randsom him with the fight. Cotto shoud take the winner of PBF/JMM and freeze the little ****er out.

I will not be back on this thread as its a waste of time. laters
