I don't need any inside information. Cotto expressed his desire to fight Pac before the Hatton fight. Cotto would be an idiot to turn down this fight and everyone knows it. Pac could easily fight a stay busy fight and wait on Mayweather. Cotto either has to fight Pac or rematch Mosley in Las Vegas or Cali. We all know damn well that Cotto doesn't want to do that. Cotto is a WW. if he wants to fight JWWs, then he should be prepared to do it at a catchweight. Let's also not forget that Pac was fighting at 135 lbs. a year ago.
Because he would make less money than he would against Pac, and there would be good chance of him losing. Cotto got two fortuitous decisions in New York. The judges and the crowd wouldn't be so pro Cotto if he fights Mosley in Cali or Vegas. I'm not saying Cotto wouldn't fight Mosley out West, but he would much rather fight Pac.
You don't seem to understand how weight affects a fighter. So what he came in at 146 for his last fight, Cotto had a limit to weigh in at 147. Paul Williams came in at 145 for the Quintana rematch. You have no point there. Second, everyone and their momma wants to fight Pac or Floyd so you have no point there either when you say Cotto wanted to fight Pac before the Pac-Hatton fight. Fighters do interviews, adn most of the time we don't even catch those interviews and they pop up somewhere. Third, Pac does not need Cotto...Cotto does not need Pac lol... Fourth, Floyd gets shitted on because he talks shite, not for trying to gain advantages against his opponent. Fifth, Don't tell us weight was an issue with Hatton against Floyd, I might puke...sorry. And don't tell us anything about Floyd-Dlh, Floyd won. You fail again. Sixth lol, PAc lost some his his luster by bypassing top 140 pound guys, and asking Cotto to come in at 143. ED didn't need to fight a 145 pound Cotto, all he had to do was defend against Bradley or a Berto before Floyd. It seems Emmanuel Dapidran took this fight because he feels Cotto has lost a step. We know that Pac won't face a Shane or Berto, Bradley, or Campbell. We know why too. What you said about Cotto-Mallignaggi was so terrible, it deserves no response. You can't even begin to paint Cotto as how you are portraying him to me lol...
Reg, you are trying to live off of this Cotto wanted to fight Pac truth/lie, but I'm not going for it. Fighters talk all the time about who they want to fight. Pac said he wanted Cotto after he fought Dlh also. This fight was only a dream fight until Emmanuel Dapidran made it a 145 pound reality.
twisted. Cotto wanted 145lbs. Doesnt matter who said it first, point is they went to the negotiating table and discussed at which catchweight they would have this happen. By this, it is common sense that Cotto knows he is the much bigger man, and fighting at a catchweight is reasonable. Why would he suggest that he wants it at 145lbs, if he thinks he wont be fit, and that throwing in the belt would be too risky for his career? talk about confidence! Now if Cotto's team is too scared to put it on the line, why suggest 145lbs at all? Why not outright say they dont want to fight at a catchweight?
Cotto wanted 145 because he knew Emmanuel Dapidran and CockRoach didn't want the fight at 147. Cotto like any boxer wants to be able to sit on a beach after his career is over, and never have to work again, and those paydays are hard to come by in this sport so he will agree to what he thinks is fair, but I, nor boxing fans don't think it is fair. The 140 pound champ challenged the 147 lb champ, and the ww champ has to come in at a weight lower than 147 why? Because the draw Emmanuel Dapidran asked him to that's why. Yeah Cotto agreed, who wouldn't agree when you will be paid millions?
You don't seem to understand that Cotto's own nutritionist said he could safely get to 145. But hey, i guess you know more about Cotto's body than his own nutritionist. What the hell are you talking about? Everyone wants to fight Pac yet I have no point when I say Cotto wanted to fight Pac? This makes sense to you? Cotto sure as hell needs Pac if he wants that big payday. He definately needs Pac more than Pac needs him. if that weren't the case, he would never agree to a catchweight and he wouldn't agree to only get 35%. What the hell are you talking about? You're not making any sense here. i only brought up the Floyd/Hatton fight to highlight how fans were bitching because that fight WASN'T at a catchweight and are now complaining because this fight is at a catchweight. i never mentioned anything about the weight affecting the fight. Your comment about the Hoya fight makes even less sense. I only brought that up to illustrate how a fighter could get criticized even if he gives in to every concession. Pac could agree to fight at 147, and then if he beats Cotto too bad everyone would say Cotto was damaged goods. So why the hell should Pac put himself at an even bigger disadvantage by fighting at 147, when the fight he really wants is against Mayweather? You think if he beats Cotto and then beats Floyd that anyone will give a **** that he fought Cotto at a catchweight? He could've done that, but his promoter was pushing for this fight. So what? We all know the big prize is Floyd anyway. if he feels he can beat a guy that he thinks lost a step in order to become a 7 division champ before he fights Floyd, more power to him. First off, don't even talk about Campbell after what happened last night. Campbell didn't look too good out there. As far as the res of them, why the hell would Pac fight any of these guys? The fans would much rather him fight Cotto. You're living in fantasy land if you expect fighters to take lesser paydays against good fighters in order to satisfy a few hardcore fans on a message board. Don't pull that elitist crap on me. Cotto manipulated the rules in order allow himself to rehydrate way above the JWW limit. His promoter also got the smallest ring possible in order to minimize Paulie's only advantage in that fight which was his speed and movement. Paulie was forced trade a whole lot more than he wanted to and got his face smashed to pieces in the process. He stood zero chance in that tiny ass ring. But I guess this is nowhere near as bad as Pac making Cotto lose an extra pound.
people need to stop with the bullshi## and stop pretending cotto is the innocent victim and pac the one instigating all of this. both have a lot to gain and lose. pac is risking his top spot, biggest fights in the history of the sport, and the euphoria around him against a bigger man. cotto is not willing to fight a career featherweight for his wbo belt. cotto is being petty and foolish. someone needs to remind his ass that pac is the draw and that he should appreciate pac giving him this opportunity.this is not the first time a catchweight was used in a major fight involving great fighters.
If Pac has indeed agreed to pay all sanctioning fees, then at this point there shouldn't be a problem. Probably. But Pacquiao-Cotto is still a bigger money fight than Pacquiao-Mosley. That's ridiculous. Pacquiao-Valero would not only be a hard sell considering Valero is unknown outside of hardcore fans, but it's also a risky one that could very easily derail Manny's path to a megafight with Mayweather. Even if Manny takes a bigger split than the one he's taking against Cotto, he still wouldn't make as much money because it's not a major fight. The same goes for a Pac fight with a Guzman, Soto, or any other Valero-like opponent. I don't think Cotto making 145 would be that much of an issue. But it very well could be. When you push your body to the limit, eventually you're going to meet a cut off point and one pound could mean a whole lot. The fact that Team Pac wants the fight at the lowest weight possible is a testament to the that. Otherwise they wouldn't have a problem with the fight taking place at 147. A catch-weight agreement is an effort to weaken Cotto, nothing more, nothing less. The Hopkins comparison isn't a good one due to the difference in builds and how their weight is distributed. Everyone's body is different. Besides Hopkins is probably the fittest fighter of his era. If he's a junior welterweight, he'll have to weigh what...141? So he weigh-ins with pants and shoes on instead of tipping the scales barefoot in boxers? Big deal. Not sure what point you're trying to get across here or where you're going with it. :huh
QUOTE: 'The thrill of being a fan is to see bigger guys beaten by smaller guys' No I completely disagree with this. A boxing match should be about fighters piting their skill, talent, speed and heart against each other. Not about freakshows where a smaller and weaker fighter is fighting a bigger and stronger fighter. That's why weight divisions exist so this **** doesn't happen. DLH versus Pac was a freakshow. Pac didn't belong in a ring with DLH, DLH couldn't in any way handle the speed of a 130-135 pounder. And Pac probably wouldn't have been able to take Oscars power at middleweight. Also, it's not 2 pounds. It's only 1 stinking pound. Cotto was 146 against Clottey.
