Funny how now that Calzaghe is retired, the SMW is this hotbed of "great"talent, even though Joe already beat the one guy regarded as the cream of the current SMW crop.

Here's a question for you guys ... who beat the better version of Hopkins?

    Jones or Calzaghe.

what? all i mean is that all tyson fans always come with that excuse "prime tyson this, prime tyson that" and talk about him as being undefeated/invincible (check spell).. if your prime last until you're 29, then you're being overrated... maybe I exaggerated (check spell) when i said the most, but he's certainly there in the top 5-10 of most overrated fighters... chill out dude

First of all, don't worry about spelling. :good

A "prime Tyson" was intimidating as hell, and a killing machine. So I don't see how the term "prime Tyson" is an excuse for anything. I bet if you ask guys that are more knowledgable than me and post in the classic, they'll tell you that a prime Tyson would be able to beat many of the all-time great heavyweights.

And I don't understand what does the amount of time one's prime lasts have to do with the way he's rated. If a guy looks (and probably is) unbeatable, knocking out opponents here and there, but he only manages to do that for a short period of time, this doesn't mean that he's overrated.
The guy was a machine when he was at his best.

I wonder how many of the guys here that think Joe is overrated also think that Ward is going to give Kessler a lesson?

Dont hold back. Say what you really mean.

  9. I have to ask.

If Calzaghe is so overrated in a weak era, yet this is considered a real hotbed of talent and depth, who would pick anyone over THIS version of Calzaghe?

Let alone one of just a year or 2 back.

It's fairly arguable all things considered that Calzaghe at 37, last ever fight was the toughest opponent Roy ever faced.

I think he's overrated on the whole, but not quite as much as he's accused of being by his detractors.

He had exceptional talent. VERY athletic, very smart, good boxer.

Not a great resume, but Lacy and Hopkins are good wins, Kessler was a great win. More talented fighters have done less.

I actually don't know who beat a better Hopkins

Hopkins faced Jones when he was 27....(Hopkins was kind of green)

Hopkins faced Calzaghe when he was 43.....(It doesn't matter what you say he is still ****en old and was not the fighter he once was)

It's a toss up, but Jones did beat Hopkins way more easily than Calzaghe beat him.
