...Brock Lesnar. The idea of Lesnar being more popular was given rather early in this article... [url]

Even in America, i think it is disturbing to think that an MMA heavyweight champ is more popular than the heavyweight champion in boxing.
    Don't you think?
..or maybe the idea is just nuts. :blood

    I love boxing but...Lesnar.

Lesnar now IS MMA. Even though hardcore fans like me know GSP, Jackson, Emilienko etc are the fighters to watch average Joe loves Lesnar and the man is a beast. He is mean and people like mean. He's like MMa's Tyson he goes out there to KTFO the other guy out regardless. Lesnar sells MMA.

    No one knows Wlad.

is this true? i don't want to take anything away from mma, if it was for me, fedor deserves global recognition for all his achievements and deserves a very special status generally as a sportsman.
but other than wlad deserving more recognition than lesnar in terms of achievement, i would've never thought that mma is so huge in the us that you gain more fame than in boxing. sure, wlad is only a foreigner, but... as heavyweight king his face still is one of the most important in the sport and i'm astonished how some random loudmouth surpasses him..

Klitschko is the man, and if he had a US citiznship and a not so russian-sounding name, he would be a household name in the US. But I think Klitschko doesnt care.

If heavyweight fights weren't so damn boring anymore, Klitchko would be more popular than any MMA star. At least those MMA guys try to get in some sembelance of shape. No bouncing Arreola's, no boring, endless jab-athons, or Nursing home escapees allowed in the MMA. Only heavyweight boxing boasts this current collection of bums, has beens, clubfighters, and other ne-er-do-wells.

Lesner still has a lot to prove. Like Wlad, he's in a weak division. Plus he's beat no one that stands out as being a great fighter. Randy Couture was a great fighter but he's 45, enough said. He might be the best HW in the UFC at the moment. But he's not the best in the world.

Lesnar is more popular. He has recognition from MMA and WWE. He's really huge and scary looking...The guy is basically a cartoon character, people love that.
The only place where Klitschko is more popular is probably in Germany.

Ys, this is sad when the MMA fighter is more popular. What's really sad is soon when someone refers to 'the heavyweight champion of the world', they won't be thinking of a boxer.

Lesnar is only bigger here in the US BECAUSE HE IS AMERICAN. Not to many CASUAL boxing fans pay attention to the heavyweight champion if they aint american. If, A BIG IF THAT IS, someone like eddie chambers defeated klitchsko, then he will be a celebrity overnight.
