Steve Collins got me into boxing as a kid and the lead up to the Eubanks fight with the walkman. It was weird and got Eubank off his gaurd. Him against Calzaghe would of been a good fight to see. I know he was looking for the Roy Jones Jnr fight but it never came off for him so he retired at the peak of his boxing bowed out World Champion. If Jones fight would of happened it would of been great to see. His brothers are always at the fights over here always see Roddy Collins when he was managing in Dublin at the fights decent bloke Roddy is a nice bloke.

He beat Benn and Eubank twice, Eubank later gave Calzaghe a decent fight afterwards. Eubank was still good at this stage. Collins would have given Calzaghe trouble.

Reggie Johnson Wooped him, Mike Mcullam...he tried his luck in thte states and came 2nd...so he came to the UK...joined matchroom with B.Hearn...faced Eubank for the Bogus WBO belt....and won.

    There were the top Supermiddles

    Nunn
    Toney
    Mccullum

    then there were

    Benn
    Collins Eubank

Benn being the best of the lot.

Calzaghe would be 2nd tier material

Calzaghe Collins is a 50/50 fight.

Collins beat Eubank when Eubank was still a good fighter. Calzaghe faced a Eubank weight drained and past it on 2 weeks notice

Steve Colins was superb. That entire era was great - Benn, Eubank, Colins, Watson, Mclennan, Hopkins, Jones, Toney.....the list goes on and on. I only think it was better because boxing was more popular then not because the fighters were necessarily more exciting or better. I loved the days when you could watch big fights for free on terrestrial TV and everyone knew who the fighters were. I try and have a boxing conversation at work noew and noone knows who I'm talking about :(

Reggie Johnson hit him with everything he had but Collins just kept on coming. The scores were 113-115, 114-114, and 114-115, hardly a wooping now was it.

Dont let me start!!!!!! Steve Collins was world class!!! ask the bonecrusher Mike Mcallum who was his toughest fight! ....yes the Irish man Steve Collins, Im not sure if im alittle to old for the youngsters to remember this fight, watch it NOw!!! check out the latter rounds, only other losses was to Reggie Johnson and Sumbu Kalambay (not sure if i spelt that right) I truly rate Collins always will, that steely determination was frightening,

who ever questions Collins, I only conclude that they are youngsters teens or mid twenties, i am an old boxing connioseur, these young whipper snappers dont know jack, if i was in my mid twenties or thirties Ill ave em upper cut cross put yer dukes up lol

Quite interesting! Would you care to comment on what you think he's weighing now. You must be a fair hand yourself to even get in the ring with him....how was his punch?

I used to spar Stevie quite a bit when he was here in the USA...we sparred at Goody Petronelli's gym (where Hagler trained)...as a matter of fact, Robbie Sims and I were his main sparring partners when he fought Sam Storey for the Irish title at 160...

I agree. though i would have liked to have seen him fight joe, rather than retiring instead of facing him. i lost respect for him after that.

He also pissed me off with his treatment of eubank (one of my fav fighters ever) after they fought. always wanting to do it one more time and slagging him off at every opportunity. the guy beat chris, what did he feel he had left to prove? i saw him on some mock army thing too (cant remember what it was called) and he came across like a ****.

collins collapsed in the gym while he was trying to get a fight with rjj , why would he want to fight some nobody at the time which joe was at the time when he was looking for the big super fights , give me a break , how can a champion lose respect for trying to get a fight with rjj and supposedly ducking calzaghe , **** off mate , he would have wiped his arse with calzaghe anyway
