This is very subjective . . . a boxing Champ will always be popular to boxing fans and a MMA champ will always be popular among MMA fans but . . . in U.S. Lesnar might have the edge in popularity because he was a part of Wrestling ENTERTAINMENT before he became an MMA fighter.

Therefore even non boxing or MMA fans knew and have encountered Lesnar's name before.

Yup big time. Hulk Hogan like Tyson is the biggest star in history. Hogan can sell out world wild back in his day.

  4. Exactly. Emelianenko is the #1 pound for pound fighter in the world. Shame he won't fight in the UFC. He's probably the only guy who can beat Lesnar right now.

    USA = Lesnar
    The World = Klitschko

Worldwide Wlad destroys Lesner, here in the USA probably Wlad as well. UFC isn't that popular here in the U.S as most people like to think, and it sure as hell ain't **** around the World.

Let me tell you something..... anyone who thinks wlad is more popular or famous, infamous, whatever.... then brock lesnar... is fooling themselves.

Go ask the people at your work, ask your family, go ask your friend's friends...

Nobody knows wlad... and could probably not name one wlad opponent.... Brock on the other hand, i can even escape the freakin' guys name...

I really dislike mma.... and i hate that its becoming more popular then boxing, but anyone who doesnt accept that it IS, isnt dealing with the harsh reality. MMA is now more mainstream then boxing.

BUT - boxing to me has also upped their game, and now that oscar is gone... instead of just one poster boy... we have two, pac and mayweather, and boxing is getting more exposure now so its not all bad, boxing needs to be redone though or else UFC will continue to pull away.

I know for a fact that in Canada NOONE has ever heard of Lesnar.

In Europe even less.... if that is possible.

Both places Wladimir Klitscho would stir many or most to boxing.

    __________

Of course in reality (at least outside of the US) Wlad is vastly more well known.

I'm going to go on a mini rant because I'm sick of all this UFC nonsense which it really isn't popular. Darchinyan-Agbeko had just a couple of thousand viewers less than UFC biggest event in the history in the U.S., around the World Darchinyan-Agbeko had more viewers than UFC buys. Also, the main story here on ESB also had some great points if you haven't read it than you should.

    On the ESPN search engine:
    January: Boxing #6 MMA #19
Febuary: Boxing #5 MMA/UFC: NR in the top 25
March: Boxing #11 MMA/UFC: NR in the top 25
April: Boxing #4 MMA/UFC: NR in top 25
May: Boxing #1, Floyd Mayweather #13, Manny Pacquiao #15, MMA #22
    June: Boxing #3, MMA #14
    July: Boxing #5, MMA #15, UFC #18, UFC 100 #24

Now what does this show? Well, it shows that sports fans (mostly in America I would assume) search for and look for news about Boxing on ESPN. While sports fans really aren't that interested in UFC/MMA, even in UFC biggest event of the year Boxing was still searched for more than UFC.

Huh, thats interesting but I would think it is misleading too.

For starters, anyone under 30 in the US is more likely to be an MMA watcher. where MMA is really winning is the casual viewer that will go to the bar where they air the events on PPV. Where I live, I went to the Roy Tito fight at the bar and by the time the main event rolled around there where maybe 20 people there. I tried going to an MMA even and we couldn't get in teh door.

There hasn't been another boxing PPV event at the bar since.

ESPN also televises boxing so it is a know spot for boxing news while MMA isn't, therefore I would think fans of MMA go elswhere.

I will say that those number do give me hope that boxing is hanging on in teh US. Globally it is doing fine, if not better than ever. I also think the influx of latin immigration will grow the sport here because we all know Mexicans love their boxing.

Vitali sells out. Vitali sold out at Madison Square Garden during a huge snow storm Vs. Kirk Johnson. MSG is in New York, New York, USA by the way.

  11. Yes, this may very well be true in the USA. You could be right on the money. However, it isn't true for the rest of the world; especially Europe.

...however, most folks intersted in MMA/UFC go to Sherdog. Even ESPN tends to base their info from Sherdog.
If you look at Sherdog's numbers (such as the number of voters on their polls) it's quite scary.

Kinda off subject, but has anyone checked out Lesnar's reach. He's 6 3 and has an 81 inch wingspan, that pretty freakish.

Yea I would kind of think that because that's about the only website for UFC/MMA fans.

I also checked the google search engine stats, which isn't a sport site it is just for anybody to search and Boxing is without a doubt the more searched between the two. The only time UFC was more searched was last month with it's big event and what not. Now it's barely being searched again.

If you think that is freakish what about Paul Williams who is 6'1" and has an 82" reach That is longer then the 6'6" Wlad Klit who is 81"
