In my opinion, there isn't enough trash talk in boxing.

There's too much trash talking in boxing but not enough people who know how to do it right.

They do it because it brings in money and helps make the big fights.

Look at PBF, he never used to trash talk back in the day then he started hanging around 50 cent and acting all arrogant and changed his name to "money mayweather" and got super fights with Hatton and DLH.

Now look at his JMM fight, both guys are being respectful and there isnt any trash talking and it aint selling tickets.

OR take Hamed who brought recognition and big money to the smaller divisions where it didnt get as much attention before. People watched him just in hope he would get KTFO.

David Haye had only 1 recent fight at heavy but he is getting a lot of talk and a shot at the title more because of his trash talking and flashy ways than because of him being a cruiser weight champ. If it was any other cruiserweight champ they would just get written off as being to small to be worthy of a direct title shot but people want to see him fight either because they like his style or want to see him KTFO.

People love trash talk..they just don't like it when it comes from somebody they hate.:deal

Some fighters are allowed to talk all the **** they want...while others are called classless.

More **** talking = more popularity/money/more boxing exposure.

i agree, also theres too much talk and not enough fighters walking the walk, you can say whatever you want but ultimately its how you back it up, for me i don't care what a fighters says (sticks and stones and all that) they can get away with anything as long as they do the business against the best. even with a good trash talker if he doesn't back it up then it just becomes cringeworthy and that fighter turns into a clown.

what we do need more is characters in boxing rather then just empty insults and guys who sound like insecure children, there's an art to smack talking its almost like being a good comedian, its the timing, purpose and effect

I dont mind fighters talking smack if it is genuine, but we have a loada of pretenders in boxing today.

yeah, because we're left with wannabe thugs who dont even think about what they're saying. Thrash talk is good if it has content, some just sound so childish.

    :good

When the guys doing the trash talking are actually funny, then i think it's welcome.

For example, James Toney's "I'll fight anyone, from flyweight to yo momma's weight!"

tons of guys trash talk today - tons! but when you look at it it's just a bunch of grade-school insults going back and forth, it's not interesting, compelling or exciting.

Freddie Roach is talking smack on behalf of Pacquiao (because Pacquiao isn't the kind of guy who would talk smack or.. even really talk much). Some people like it, some people hate it but so far they've lived up to every promise and fulfilled every obligation... and put people in the seats without resorting to childish name calling or attacking family members.

Darchynian did a great job trash talking recently and made tons of noise in the lower weight classes. ..and all he did was say "that guy is nothing, i'm going to knock him out" over and over. well, he said a few other things but no huge insults you can't shake hands and forget about later.

then there's the other guys people love to talk about..
James Toney, what a piece of work, said **** about the Klitschko's for years and turned down every offer they ever made to fight him. There's no honor in that. You want to talk smack then back it up, don't just ride a guy's coat-tails if you never have any intention of going face to face with him.

David Haye, another empty talking head, despite all his potential he still hasn't backed up anything he's ever said. And I do mean ANYTHING other then "I'm going to move up to Heavyweight", well congratulations David, now what?

Mayorga said a lot of stupid stuff that a 10 year old could have come up with but none of it made him as famous as his cigar smoking, his actual wins over Forrest and all of his eventual spectacular losses.

And you know what, I hate Muhammed Ali, I hate his guts, I hate what he stands for...everything. I have no pity for his condition. But before when he was Cassius Clay he talked an inordinate amount of smack to anyone who would listen - and then you know what he did? He back every word of it up! Even the fight he lost to Frazier, he fought his heart out, he even went on to fight with a broken Jaw against Norton. That's respect there.

I have to admit that Toney would make me laugh consistently - but so much of it was just empty jabber, weightless promises that after a while it started to sound to me like nails on a chalk board.

I like it if it's got a bit of humour.

Ali was brilliant and even Frazier came out with some good lines.

James Toney is a genius. He makes me **** myself.

There should be a balance. You can't have all nice guys and you can't have a bunch of trash talkers...you need villains and heroes. I don't think there should be more trash talkers, I wish there were better trash talkers.
