Alexis dad attempted suicide when alexis was young and he was a tortured soul also. I think this was always in Alexis head. Arguello fought for different reasons than the average fighter.Yes he was paid to fight but he viewed boxing as a way for a man to prove his metal, with honor and integrity.Alexis viewed boxing as a chess match with a right way and a wrong way to acheive victory. Much the same way Hogan played golf,Williams hit a fastball or Walter Payton ran for touch downs he did it the right way. Life on the other hand is not or was not a boxing ring for Alexis. I think it pained him that he could not change things for the better in his country, it tore at his soul and he found that people are corrupt and lack honor. Alas such are the times in which we live......he realized this and it killed him.
i dont think boxing caused it personally. Alexis is one of my favourite fighters and people of all time, he is inspirational. RIP Alexis.
Are YOU a psychologist? Gatti's death is questionable. Everyone who followed Gatti knows that he is stable person. According to the article I read a few days ago, his friends said that Gatti is a happy man. If he is dissatisfied with something, it would be his dissatisfaction with his wife, who is a suspect in Gatti's death.
This is just a typical case of people blaming one's profession for their demise. Whenever a wrestler dies people immediately yell "steroids" when they know nothing about the side effects or benefits. I just don't see how boxing is to blame in a situation like this unless people say he lost his mind and that wasn't the case. Arguello wasn't living a terrible life in his last few years for people to assume boxing is the reason behind the suicide. If he was in a position where he lost his mind or had mental break downs from boxing I don't think he would have even elected vice mayor of Managua.
