Any of you dip under punches etc rather than lean back/side-step ?

I been doing this on pads recently and always tried it in sparring but not in fights, always felt like a sitting duck.

Instinct just had me lean back, side step with a jab or hook.

Any one do it or any links to lanky dippers ?

you shouldn't lean back.....cos you can only lean back so far then you gotta come forward....and eventually a good fighter will time this and you will get tagged

I dip if they're as tall or taller than me. Not often the case though so I just use head movement, range and am very good at distance.

It works. I'm 6'4, I never fight people shorter than me. If you bend your knees and get low you can really dip and roll under your opponents punches and make them miss; although I think dipping straight down is best used for hooks. I typically slip and bob with a straight punch if I'm getting low.

Aye, i tend to dip at knees, not rounding shoulders. Just when i roll right to come up for a str8 right then a hook say, feels strange.

I see people mention against taller, i meant me being taller against shorter fighters.

Of course they are still firing at my head height so regardless of height i can or should be able to dip it.

Will just stick to using range, stick n move and tie up inside.

Being a tall guy; I think this is a sound strategy for anyone tall. But don't get too used to tying up. I would work on your footwork and use of angles so they can't get on your chest so easily. Tying up too much will get you in trouble in the amateurs.

Yeah true, they will step in more etc....

I "try" to rip off a combo then lean back and wing a long left hook, if they comn in or not. More a defensive punch

Getting off the right uppercut if they come inside and i miss with the hook is a problem.

    True, they dont like it.

I usually wanna turn them or punch out to range again rather than be inside.

    Easier said than done.

I think a tall fighter should devlop an inside game it can be really effective
