From Edinburgh Evening News; The former WBO super-featherweight champion should stay away from sparring or training for at least a month, he revealed, as he has been over-training. And last week's charity sparring session with Nathan Taylor to raise funds for Ken Buchanan's drive to support injured fighter Gerald McClellan did not help, Arthur admitted. "I didn't feel 100 per cent, even though I only sparred two light rounds, so I consulted a doctor who told me that I've been overdoing the training which I have to admit isn't surprising as there have only been three days since January when I haven't been running, training and sparring," he said. "Over-training can often lead to staleness and that's what has happened to me so I won't have my next fight at least until the very end of September or early October.'' Slow news day in Edinburgh. Hopefully he has a wee tune-up at Meadowbank next month.
His career is just stop start stop start. I was hoping he would be on the Khan bill because his first fight back he had a punchbag as an opponent. He needs to get a move on and this stuff keeps hindering him.
Whatever is going on here its bad news for Alex. But overtraining???????????? A week off with the right diet and then back into light to moderate work should suffice in nearly all cases. I suspect a weight issue here and if it wasn`t Alex, something more sinister. I`ve not really been following his progress but there seems to be other issues involved with him. I wish him well as Scotland needs some success just now.
at world level right now Arthur gets sparked out. Guzman is gonna pick up the IBF, Valero has the WBC and Marquez has the WBA and WBO. Unless he goes for Paulius Moses of course who is regular WBA Champ. what a joke. seriously he should be able to beat the french euro champ and then Moses by next summer. Then Khan can come down for a big fight.
Why is he sparring everyday with no fights coming up? he should know his body better, there are some decent fights in this division now with Arthur, Murray, Rees, Thaxton etc. No sign of any of them happening though
He obviously feels he is too good for the domestic scene, been there done that. Getting on a bit now so its last chance saloon at the top level, hope he gets the opportunity. Remember he was scheduled to face Guzman in 2007 before "visa" problems, so i reckon a big fight can be made for him.
That would be a shame because I was hoping he could fight Murray in the near future. Maybe that could be made into world title eliminator in about six months or so? assuming Murray carries on winning of course.
Just what I was thinking. Arthur, time and time again, comes across as very unprofessional. What are his team doing aswell? Why did'nt they advise him to take his foot off the gas?
Arthur is a crack pot. Seriously this kid has been loosing it for sometime. He's had sooooo much smoke blown up his ass that the kid really thinks he's a world beater. Arthur has found his level. Someone needs to explain that to him. Additionally if he doesnt have any fights coming up whats the point in sparring every day?
