Its no secret that I hope Arreola knocks Vitali's block off with a passion. I really will ask the boxing gods every day from here until september for Arreola to score a devastating Kayo so we can shut up Vitali Nuthuggers once and for all.

Will it happen? I don't know. Right now? Prolly not. In 1-2 years? Most Defintley. I am a big fan of Chris Arreola but I think they are rushing this match. Arreola has not fought any top 10 live contenders, despite his impressive demolition of Aging but dangerous Mccline. This will be the first test for Arreola ever. I would have rather seen Arreola's management allow Chris to get his weight under control, and get experience fighting a slew of top 10 contenders before throwing him in vs Vitali. Now make no mistake about it, Green or not, if Arreola connects on Vitali...He has the skills and power to take out an Old fighter like Vitali. Arreola has what it takes. I just would have rather waited 1-2 more years then I think Chris would defintley knock him out. Right now, I dont know if Chris is experienced enough...and he makes it worse on himself by baloooning up to obese numbers. If Chris ever gets his weight under control watch out...because Chris has skills and Two Fisted Power Sam Peter could only dream of having. Chris IS the real deal. I do not think Old Vitali is a class above Arreola. I do not think this will be an easy fight. Arreola is NO sam peter. Arreola has power and skills and youthness Vitali has never seen before. But Vitali presents problems a green fighter like Arreola has never seen before. Lets hope youthness prevails here, but if anyone is capable of beating Vitali other than Wlad(We All know Wlad would clearly beat his brother)...Then Arreola is a good choice. I don't like the way Arreola's management is handling Chris.

I am leaning toward Vitali now...but with his old age, history of having low tolerance to pain...I give young Chris a live punchers chance. I just wish Arreola would get himself in shape so he doesnt end up like another David Tua.

On a sidenote, This will actually be Vitali's best win he has ever recorded if he topples Arreola. Sanders? 39, out of shape, inactive, and mostly a journeyman level fighter. Peter? Overweight and just plain not that good. Kirk Johnson? 25lb overweight, he truelly was a beached whale that night. Gomez? 36 years old, looked soft around the midsection and slower than usual.

    GO CHRIS! REPRESENT AMERICA!

I'd have been proud of that one myself :D

Hopefully Arreola has enough time to grow dreadlocks and perfect his dead arm technique.

Arreola is at the point where the new young gun should take out the older champion. But given that he is disgustingly overweight, it's going to be a big task. How ****ing hard is it to come in shape when you're a professional boxer anyway?? Most people working desk jobs are in better condition, for Christ's sake.

I will say that he seemed to perform quite well against McCline, despite the spare tire. However, that was only 4 rounds against an 38 year old, washed up former contender who came out of retired for a payday.

Gomez landed quite a few shots on Klitschko early and in general i thought Vitali did not look that good defensively. Age is catching up with him, plus all the injuries. I see this as a 50/50 fight if Arreola comes in "decent" bad shape, but mainly due to his age.

If Vitali loses, it does setup a nice unification fight between Wlad and Arreola.

    I have a couple guesses...

    1) When exposed to physical and emotional stress (pain, fear, etc.), people tend to eat more. Boxing is a very stressful undertaking. More so than a lot of other sports.

    2) When exposed to physical and emotional stress, the body stores more fat.

    3) Professional athletes burn a lot of calories. When they stop training, they still retain their eating habits. Boxing, unlike many other sports, has long layoff times without coach-imposed conditioning.

Arreola is a joke, a poor man's Sam Peter if that is possible ... if he were not Mexican he would not be on anyone's radar screen ... Arum smells money and knows a Mexican heavy can draw if he can hit a biyt and has the right tats ... Arreola has shown absolutely zero and if Vitali has anything left he stops him in a few rounds tops ..

Arreola has horrible defense himself. Vitali is a pretty good counterpuncher for a tall guy. Arreola is also a slob. Should be pretty easy night for Vitali to bide his time from the outside before lowering the boom.

I will cheer for Areola, due to the fact that boxing is in dire need of young blood......And also because I'm American.....

But in all seriousness, I don't know if Chris Areola is the answer to the problems of heavyweight boxing, and I'm not sold on the idea that he can dethrone Vitali. Klitschko may indeed be 38 years of age.. He may indeed be going into only the 3rd fight that he's had in nearly 5 years. But, his last two performances have shown that he certainly has something left in the tank, and in truth have shown more than Chris Areola has proven in his whole career...

I can sit here and try to make all sorts of predictions and draw up detailed analyses of both men.. But I'm not going to.. Like everything else, we'll just have to wait and see...

I am sorry. Who ever jumped off the Pavlik train? As far as I can see, He is still a Young prime undefeated middleweight Champion at 160. When Pavlik loses to a fighter who is not an ATG, then come talk to me. As far as I am concerned Pavlik is still the real deal, and one of the worlds best punchers.

I have been high on Arreola for quite some time. If perhaps you ever read my posts, especially the one where I made the top 10 heavyweights in the world thread...A thread in which everyone enjoyed but you chose not to participate because you were probably busy checking yourself out in the mirror.

Chris, how washed up could Mccline have been? He was coming off a 3 knockdown near win performance over # 2 rated Sam Peter just one year earlier? Mccline has always been known for having a good chin, and Arreola made it seem like nothing. The kid is a genuine finisher. Sure Mccline was not world class anymore, he was never good to begin with...and I would like to see Arreola get tested more. Chazz Witherspoon was not a bad win. He was a highly touted young prospect.

Wow for someone who is high on David Tua, I do not understand this train of thought. Have you ever watched Arreola fight? Arreola has SKILLS peter could only dream of having. Arreola also punches harder and is a better finisher than Peter and certainly has quicker hands. Notice how Mccline floored peter 3 times and nearly beat him, while Arreola wiped the ring with Mccline in 4 devastating rounds. Arreola is alot like David Tua....He hits abnormally hard, is an amazing finisher, puts up a nice workrate and has quick hands...difference is Arreola has better skills and is much harder to outbox than tua. Arreola's worst enemy is his weight..but if he gets that in check WATCH OUT because the man actually has some serious skills for a "Slugger".

Few rounds? You are totally underestimating Arreola's skill level. Arreola is a far better fighter than balooned kirk johnson and Sam Peter. The only way I can see this fight ending a few rounds if Arreola tags Vitali. Vitali himself is an attrition puncher, not a one punch artist. If he takes Arreola out it will be by the 8th-12th round IMO.

When did Vitali all of a sudden become an old fighter who is showing his age? He doesn't look or fight much different than he did 5 years ago. He's still durable, somewhat ungraceful, but very effective.

    Or how about:

    4) He simply doesn't have the discipline to watch his diet?

Being a boxer is a full time responsibility to look after your body. The Klitschkos are in top shape 24/7 and many others are. You make it sound like something that you can't realistically expect from a top boxer.

I don't think it's unreasonable to expect a man to simply be in shape, when he is payed hundred thousands of dollars to do so.

Yeah, but the difference is that McCline officially retired after Ruiz and stopped taking care of his body as he should've. He was still around 270lbs, but lost his muscle definition and instead invested it in a big beer belly. Have a gander:

    McCline weighing in for Arreola....

There's a big difference. The fact that he quit pretty early in the fight shows exactly this mindset. McCline once was a world class contender, but not championship level.

My guess is they're putting him in with Vitali so early because they want to cash out on their prize cow before he eats himself out of competition. And i'm not joking. When he got knocked down by Travis Walker but came back to win, he was saying that this experience woke him up, and that he would never come in at that weight again. Well he was right, but in the wrong way; against McCline he was even heavier. :-(

The Witherspoon win was a good one, and at 239lbs he was at least in decent shape.

My current favorite American heavyweight is Eddie Chambers. He doesn't have a crowd pleasing style, but he's very skilled, and unlike Arreola he doesn't take the easy route to the title and is dedicated to boxing, not to Tacos.

You're comparing Arreola to David Tua based on what ? He looked like a total amayeur v.s. Walker for the first round and a half, getting hit with almost every punch and getting dropped on his ass. Yes he showed some heart by stopping Walker but Chris' skill set and chin and conditioning look pathetic.

You are ysing the McCline fight as some sort of serious barometer of accomplishment and it was a joke. Gerald was clearly there for a check, gave a half hearted effort for a check and packed it in ...

So since you are so high on Chris you will then definatly give Vitali huge credit if he defeats him, correct ?
