I think this is kind of lame.... it gives an advantage to one type of fighter but hurts fighters with a different type of style...

    they should have had it

    t/ko = extra point
    a very wide ud = extra point (9-3 / 10 -2)

oh well.... what do you fellows think

It doesn't reward a specific style of fights, it rewards those who finish the fight. What fighter could realistically be penalized for it? All 6 guys have KO ability.

Sides you really want an extra point hanging in the balance on wide scorecards with fights in Germany?

Yes, I feel it is unfair.

If you catch someone with a lucky shot in the last round whilst behind on points you get more reward than you would for Lacy'ing someone.

Better to have it this way than no way at all though :deal

yeah but i mean.... what if you fight a guy like carl froch and it would better serve you just to stink him out of the gym

and you actually shut him out.... 12-0.. 11-1

thats just as dominating if not more than a t/ko

Probably and I'm sure if it comes to it then they'll consider revising it. It's not an exact science this tournament.

That said the chances of a judge scoring a shut out KNOWING the rules (a shut out is an extra point) is remote. Judges would be practically handing out rounds to avoid having to make that sort of decision (scoring it a 12-0 type affair).

And again, fighters who take fights out of the hands of judges (who can be Moe, Larry and Curly-esque) SHOULD be rewarded.

I think it is kind of unfair, honestly it gives the advantage to the three european fighters because they are the guys that have the real KO power and are KO artists, the three americans are all more of boxers, none of them have real KO power. And yeah walk, I agree with you, a shutout on the scorecards is more impressive in my mind than a KO.

Dirrell does? The last Andre Dirrell fight to go to a decision was in 2007 some 5-6 fights ago.

Jermain Taylor has shown the ability to be a heavy handed puncher as well. It's not the tournament's fault he can't sustain it well enough to actually finish the job.

Realistically, 4 out of 6 make it to the next round anyway. The only reason this should affect anyone is if multiple guys go 1-2, then the one who scored the knockout gets to advance. Seems fair enough to me.

    Generally.

    But not always.

    Hatton TKO 11 Malignaggi > Hatton UD Urango (3 x 119-109)

    Though.....

Lewis D 12 Holyfield > Lewis TKO 2 Grant & TKO ?? Botha put together

Yeah I guess Dirrell does, but Jermain doesn't really, he can get a guy wobbled and then get him on the canvas with a few shots after they're wobbled but he by no means has one punch KO power like Froch, AA, and Kessler.

They are trying to encourage good tear ups. I think this could work quite well.

I know the UFC use KO/stoppage bonuses in the ultimate to good effect.

If it works, then good, if it doesnt they can dump it.

One more fight between the tied parties?

Maybe strength of opposition? I dunno.

This is bull****. So a lucky KO punch will be more rewarded than a total 12 rounds domination.....:patsch
