"If the fight is at 147-pounds, that is the limit. If he weights more than that, then you are at junior middleweight. But with one or two pounds less, you are still inside the limit,..We (the WBO) have the responsibility... that if a fight is going to be inside the welterweight limit, then it has to be for the title."

    -WBO president Paco Valcarcel

Oh yeah, according to WBO guidelines, Cotto would have to pay sanctioning fees regardless if the belt was on the line.

people on ESB don't understand this simple logic. As far as the WBO is concerned, the fight is below 147lbs. The 145lb catchweight is an agreement between the two fighters. The WBO is not concerned with this agreement as long as it doesn't conflict with their rules, which is that the fighters cannot weigh more than the WW limit.

    Erm.....

If Pacquiao wants the title on the line, the limit should be 147lbs.

After all, the welterweight limit is 147lbs.

IMO - the WBO isn't a real title anyway, just ****ing vacate if necessary.

Why give Frank Warren loads of $$$ in fees?

I think most of us now this. Cotto will likely Vacate and let Pac pay the fees unless Arum steps in and pays.

If Cotto just doesn't wanna pay the fees, I can understand where he's coming from. But if Arum or Pac are willing to foot the bill, then Cotto has nothing to complain about really.

Yea Roach said if Cotto Vacates the WBO They would pay the fee The WBO would just rank Pac number one contender, and have him fight for the vacated title regardless. If Cotto would win the belt would still remain vacant.
