To the Mexicanos here at ESB, being that Duran was half Mexican from his father side, do you guys take pride in that or was it difficult to relate to Duran being that he was always representing Panama throughout his career?

I don't think most Mexicans care about this. I don't. I love Duran as a fighter but whether or not he has Mexican blood is neither here or there. What seperates a Mexican and a Puerto Rican and a Nicaraguan is not blood but where they grew up and their cultures that make them unique to those countries.

Interesting take on your part. I guess the reason why I asked this is because a couple of months ago I was looking at that popular Duran highlight on youtube and I saw in the comments from many whom I would assume to be Mexican saying that Duran was a great fighter because of his Mexican bloodline.

It was never an issue like eliqueiros says however it was common knowledge. Kind of like the fact that Ted Williams the hall of fame baseball player was half Mexican.

Mexican fighters are tough because Mexican are from a culture that embraces death. The aztecs worshipped death --today we still venerate the dead on Day of the Dead. If you look at Mexican art you see death romanticized. So undoubtedly his fearless attitude came in part from his roots. However, latinos are generally tough sob's.

so you are telling me when a Rican fights a Mexican you don't get more fired up due to the national pride aspect of the fight.
