I think Pac is more deserving of the WW title by beating Cotto at 145 than Cotto was by beating Jennings at 147.

    jaysus.

145 pounds fall inside the range of the WW division(141-147), hence the goddamn piece of **** title can be contested for. what people are griping about is that cotto is contractually obligated to come in at a 145 lb "handicap"(if you will), and not his preferred weigh in weight of 146-147.

THis is only to the benefit of the WBO. They don't care that Cotto is the champ!

Bottom line... If Pac wants to be a WW champ make the fight at 147 pound limit fight. But if the money is right and Cotto agrees to 145 then thats his problem. End of story. Who the **** cares anymore.

Not sure how he had managed to lose his previous fight at LHW and still be champion?

If Cotto is defending his world title he should be able to come in at 147 lbs.

It's has nothing to do with understanding simple logic. They shouldn't have interfered with the negotiation process. Prior to all of this, Pac was not even ranked as a WW. They are simply trying to cash in on this - plain and simple. After the fight was announced they rushed and made Pac the #1 WW contender, when no other division had him ranked as a WW. They did this so that if Cotto does not want the title on the line, they can strip him and then make the fight be for the vacant title. Regardless, it becomes a title fight and they get paid. This was unprecedented, and completely done for greed purposes.

What I'm stuck on is this, if they strip Cotto, will he then become the #1 and Manny #2 or will they drop Cotto to number 3 and leave Clottey at #2 ?

Either way though if Cotto vacates and doesn't pay any fees, I don't think this can be considered a fight for the vacant title if Manny fights him, but I'll have to check the rules for what happens when the title is vacated.

What people are forgetting is that PAC demanded the fight to be at 143lb,
145lb was the weight that Cotto proposed by himself to have agreement.
So 145lb is not what PAC wants but what Cotto wants for this fight
so that is actually his preferred weigh in.

The WBO isn't stopping him from coming in at 147.

Not sure how that would work. I read an article that Manny was going to pull out of the fight if the title wasn't on the line; then the WBO president said it would be on the line, and made Manny the #1 Contender. They said if Cotto refuses, then he can vacate the title and it will still be a title fight.

It's not his preferred weight - he would much rather not have a catchweight. When Manny demanded 143, Cotto said he cannot safely come below 145. Manny eventually agreed to fight at that weight. But still, 145 is not what Cotto wants - it's what he can safely make since Pac insists on a catchweight.
