This is the only film I've been able to find of Choynski: [yt]IsB3O0JnBjI[/yt] His record: http://www.cyberboxingzone.com/boxing/choynski.html http://www.boxrec.com/list_bouts.php?human_id=010540&cat=boxer 15 rounds, modern rules. Who wins?
You seem to be trying to give us the most difficult possible fantasy matchups to judge. If we don't know the measure of Joe Choynski due to lack of evidence (as many suggest) then we know Kikkel Kessler even less at this stage.
Indeed. Reconstructing what we know from very, very small amounts of evidence helps us a lot when we move back into the modern period and its plentiful data. I'm continually impressed by the Classic forum's ability to analyze fights like this -- from your analysis of Sullivan's style to the Greb/Calzaghe debate.
The first and perhaps most important question is whether there are more unknowns about Choynski or Kessler. We have Choynskis proven acomplishments and flashes of film vs Kesslers deluxe film record and flashes of greatness. After the tournament I could probably nerrow my predictions somewhat.
Choynsky by ko , he could box and he could hit very hard, his chin was not of the best ,but Kessler would not dent it imo.
After the coming super middleweight tournament I could probably narrow my predictions somewhat. It would be more than helpfull to see Kessler against those fighters. I picked Calzaghe to beat Kessler and picked the mechanism of his beating him fairly acurately. Having said that I would favour Kessler over any SMW active today. There is a beast there that needs to be unleashed. Now the one thing that stands out about Choynski above all is that he was not only a Satterfieldesque hitter he was also a finisher. He was sending big heavyweights crashing to the boards with a single combination. He could inject that killing punch through any opening (voluntary or otherwise) like a bacillus. If he hurt you to the chin and you survived, a left hook to the solar plexus would be next. He basicaly finished Jack Johnson with a two punch combination, solar plexus, temple, job done. Now what fight is curently on the cards that need to tell us more about how this would unfold?
to get this i think we need to anaylse Choynski like we did with Fitzsimmons and Sullivan to get an idea on the type of boxer etc...
