I guess we'll never know for certain but those were some the loosest ropes I've ever seen. Ali was bending those things so far I thought he was going to kiss Jim Brown on the forehead.

That certainly didn't help matters, but that's also a sign of Foreman's ring IQ on that night- after Ali countered George's plan A of cutting the ring off, Foreman never made Ali switch tactics after that and fought everything on Ali's terms. He noticed the loose ropes, but never altered his gameplan to quit wasting punches even knowing Ali could lean out of his reach. Big tactical error on George's part IMO.

Foreman had a long list of excuses for that one even he admitted he had to create bull**** excuses to try and convince his self he didn't lose fairly.

Ali used the perfect gameplan and knocked him out in a fight he was expected to die in, accept it and move on.

The other thing.... you will be hard pressed to find even an Ali critic that wont say Ali is `better` or `superior` to Foreman.[/quote]

I'm not disputing that Ali was a better boxer than big George.

My point was that the better, superior boxer doesn't always win.

Take a look at Herol Graham v Julian Jackson, for example.....

I was in the arena and watched that fight LIVE Angelo got Clay the extra time he needed plus used illegal smelling salts. When round 5 started poor Henry Cooper must have thought he was fighting two men

That fight wasnt even close. I had Foreman winning maybe 2 rounds. Ali would pound Foreman coming in, and by the 8th round Foremans face was swollen and Ali finished him. Ali even told Angelo that he was toying with Foreman before finishing him.

Oh and Ali barely had a mark on him at the end.

Foreman was screwed over, by people involved in fight, like on King, media, and Zaire officials. Also by his inability to fight more than 5 rounds at the time.

He got cut bad during trainiong in Zaire, and bout was postponed. His handlers wanted to bring him back to states for a few weeks, but Zaire army was put on him to gaurd agianst him leaving. That helped **** up his head. Ali said Foreman was scared, and media played it up. They wanted Ali, and headlines he generated, back.

Foreman was portrayed as vilian to people of Africa, and whole nation of Ziare was agaisnt him.

Ropes were loosened, so Ali was able to lean so far back his head was out of range. When he go tagged, it was at end of punch, negating impact.

Foreman looked awful and confued from beginning. Look at way he wakled after Ali, moving one foot in front of the other, a beginners mistake, and one h ehad never done in past. He had arms out pawing like a guy trying to find way in dark, and did not know how to attack body when Ali was on ropes.

This conspiracy must have happened in between rds 1 & 2 because thats the moment Ali came up with the idea of the rope-a-dope, his original plan was to dance on his toes for as long as he could & stick & move but he realised that Foreman was gonna outlast him if both kept using the same style & tactics they had in rd 1 so he had to come up with something new.... & that was the rope-a-dope.

Dont even try debate this, its fact, just let it sink in.

    Cheers :good

You're right, the ropes weren't loosened, they were just as tight as normal. "They" just broadcast the fight in a frequency that caused anyone watcthing it to hallucinate that the ropes looked very loose and were sagging, and that Ali was able to reclinine to like a 45 degree angle. The ropes were definately normal. A vast conspiracy indeed.

I see what you're saying Lionel. And theres nothing wrong with challenging the popular consensus, but I give Ali the benefit of the doubt here. In his post fight interview he even goes on about it ''I want every boxer to put this in a page of boxing....''

Do you believe he decided to conjure up this story of the rope a dope within minutes after the fight ended, in an attempt to cover up that he was fighting scared? Doubful in my book.

Also, as has been stated - he was winning the fight comfortably on points and was content to outbox Foreman, he deserves full credit.

AND another thing - he took shag all shots to the head, body might have been a bit sore after but head shots? What fight were you watching? :?
