Right on, my Gracie brother. I am a big proponent of gi training mainly because I think it best prepares one for real life scenarios. Unless one is involved in an altercation at the beach - one is usually fighting someone in full clothing. That's when all that time gripping gi lapels comes in handy. And you could beat me anyway - I was never very good at pure jiujitsu. I always trained to cheat along the way.
Yes, Royce Gracie JJ, Im only a blue belt tho, my consistency isnt the best, I havent been in about 7 months or so, need to get back to it, I will be rusty as **** for sure.
Did a hour of No Gi tonight practiced some very nice Triangle setups which has became one of my go to weapons now im hitting this on high level Bluebelts. When it was time to grapple I faced off a slightly bigger kid but quite a bit less experienced I have about a year he has about 4-5 months started off in his guard I passed pretty easily, trapped his right arm and started working for a Kimura but didnt wanna give up control of the arm inbetween my legs so I switched off and finished him with an Americana. We restarted in my guard first time around I pretty easily controled his right arm and finished with a Armbar. We restart agian and I hit a sweep into mount my attacks where limited since we where near the wall, I just put on the grapevine to stretch his legs out and work for another Americana, Forearm choke or something but time ran out. Paired up with my pal Tim whos another guy with about a year experience like me, 3 stripes and our GI coach has us working together alot because we will likely be promoted together. First round he kept me in his guard I couldnt pass then next round It was classic Jim vs Tim us countering everything we do exept this was more techniqual then our scramble fest (imagine Diaz vs Sanchez thats usually us) I hit one sweep on him that took me into his butterfly guard, he attempted a Guilliotine I got my head out that he hit an explosive sweep to take my back then I did a foreword roll back into guard and time was stopped. I wont go into long storys about my JiuJitsu training everyday but today I just felt like discussing it. Id like if the other guys who train would share there stuff like I did you know what techniques you worked on and how your free rolling went.
I usually train BJJ 4 nights a week at a Gracie Barra school, got 2 stripes on my white belt and love it. Went to a comp on Sunday and lost by points and I've done something to my shoulder, it's been clicking and hurts when I raise my arms above my head! So needless to say I'm having a few days of.
im amazed you remember your rolling so well. usually all i remember is the finishing holds or the general gist of the round
Well tonight was I think 2 minute matches basically then flip the starting postion. So overall I only grappled for 8 minutes. Now like Monday I rolled with a guy for about 20 minutes straight and I cant describe it the way I did my matches tonight.
does anyone else find that some days your killing it and everything is working slick and tight and other days you feel like a complete novice? Its like every time i learn something i realise how little i know.
Yes, and if I feel like that for 1-2 weeks straight I have to stop doing BJJ for about 2 weeks to recuperate from the plateau. I tried to fight through it last time and I literally lost will, I can't consciously control this will to try and its pretty harsh. Hopefully when I get back out there(been out for almost 3 weeks now) I will have that hunger I pride myself in.
I agree with you both there are some days I cant be stopped then the very next day im getting grapple****ed by someone. Rusty im with you every new technique I learn I almost feel like a jackass who had nothing in his arsenal. I feel you Ufoalf a couple months ago I hit a plateau and kinda lost my desire for BJJ I didnt do any for about a month now the last 6-7 weeks that ive been back have been incredible.
