Has anyone done the scoring for this fight recently? was it disputed decision?

    Yes, it was disputed.

Personally, I thought Shavers was blatantly jobbed. I thought he won roughly 9 rounds to 6, and pretty clearly.

I agree, and had it the same as you did.

Shavers actually said he thought the decision was fair, which I thought was weird. I felt I was being a tad generous to Ali by giving him 6 rounds.

I scored it 10 to 5 for Shavers. Ali was floored and got a favor from the ref, who called it a "slip". Same thing happened in Frazier-Ali 1, where Ali was floored in the beginning of round 11 by a vicious left hook and Arthur Mercante called it a "slip".

Ali got a lot of these kinds of gift decisions throughout his long career.

I have not from start to finish in a long time. I do remember Shavers hurting Ali early. 10 to 5 is an easy fight to score. So Shavers should have been lineal champion?

Another close shave  for Muhammad during the post manilla part of his career. Nonetheless, after watching it again late last night I still think he deserved the victory. I made 8-7-1 in rounds.

Shavers goes down as a champion in my book. If you look at his career record, you'll notice that Joe Frazier and George Foreman ducked him. Shavers even called Foreman on the telephone and Foreman told him he didn't want to fight him.

Well, if you scored it for Shavers you could say Shavers deserved to be linear champion, but only if you are sure Ali shouldn't have lost to Norton the previous September, or Jimmy Young a few months before that !

So Frazier ducks a heavyweight who isn't even rated in the top 10 and Foreman ducks one who spent George's tenure as champ:

    Outside the top 10
    ranked about 8th
Knocked out in 1 by Quarry

    Yeah, huge duckage there. :huh

    It was not a knockdown.

Neither Frazier or Foreman ducked Shavers. He was never in a position to fight either of them.

I'd say that it was a close fight. Shavers landed right hand bombs, won his rounds big but Ali threw more and landed more in some of the rounds.

Ali showed an unbelievable chin and Shavers was in the shape of his life, by far the best fight I've ever seen him fight.

Well, maths was never my best subject :D I meant 8-6-1 It could easily have gone the other way, though. Some of the rounds were really close.

I thought Ali won. I didn't know the decision was disputed to be honest, and I didn't see the fight as THAT close...maybe I need to give it another look!
