As it says in the title. Various sources for this today, including: http://www.fightnews.com/?p=19560 Personally, I like the idea. I've seen many situations that could easilly have been cleared up with a short replay after the fight; it could even be used between rounds, if needed, as well. What do you think, the future of the sport or a flash in the pan idea that will never be implemented?
I'm a lil undecided. The other night it would of helped Nate Campbell. But then there's going to be the odd problem when there's a really hard call....maybe a punch and a instant head clash that causes the cut but no one can make out if the punch caused the cut or head etc...but in saying that were always going to have the odd tight call but i rather it be like that cos they should have at least one right of appeal after the fight. What i do worry about is fighters who will try take the risk and pull out of fights with a cut they could easily fight on with and they pull out and have it looked at and try get a nd. We have some fighters like Cotto who fought on with bad cuts then we have other fighters just pulling out for whatever reasons they have...imo some fighters want to have everything perfect they want to have clear sight but that's not boxing imo but again in saying that fighters are already pulling out aka Hasim Rahman James Toney 2. So i suppose i have to go with yes.
What annoyed me about Campbell was that he could have continued, too often boxers are taking the accidental cut as a way out. Cotto went WAY up in my estimation (not that he'll care!!!) after carrying on with that bad cut when he must have known after 5 or 6 rounds he was probably up on the cards.
It will be another 100 years before that is brought in here. Under British rules, you can headbutt someone and win by stoppage.
Some interesting points you've raised, Mandanda. My reflection on them is below: 1) Exactly the reason it should be implemented, IMO. It clears up dodgy decisions and controversial situations on the night and doesn't leave the fighters, backroom staff, TV and fans out of the loop for ages until an official decision is made days after it took place. 2) If it's a tight call they should go with what the ref said originally, IMO. 3) This is a worry. If this is the case, they'll have to keep the 'replay ref' away from the action so the fighters cannot be influenced by what is going on behind the scenes.
A few guys have taken the 'gamble' with cuts lately. Zab Judah did against Clottey, Calderon has done it a few times. In a thread about that very subject I think it was TFFP who said that the call should be down to the doctor on accidental headclash cuts. If the doctor rules you out, we go to the cards, if he says you are OK, the choice is yours. Carry on or lose by stoppage.
Yeah i'm nodding my head here i agree. I worry for the tv ref if he's in say Barranquilla and got a rowdy crowd if he tried to go against the home fighter he be in for a horrible night so he basically go with the home man. So your spot on keep them away from the action so they can't be influenced at all.
It's so true and there's no reason at all to keep the rules they have. It just so annoying seeing a fighter like Singh the other week lose to a guy who butted him in first round. That guy goes home a winner and Singh's record looks a mess now.
You could just say, well, who gives a ****, it's only a record and who is Fighter A to question the rules. I just think it is high time we adopted the other rules. They aren't perfect, but a damn sight better than the ones we have. A bit like getting rid of Ravi Bopara and putting James Anderson in at #3.
I say no simply because i like human error which causes controversy and controversy sells. Logically speaking, instant replays would help alot.
An interesting stance. That said, the IBF released a statement basically saying something to the tune of 'imagine if you were a contender who lost a title fight controversially. With that loss you also lost your chance of becoming a champion, making good money and also, to an extent, your career'. When put like that, it's makes complete sense for replays, IMO.
Sorry to let you know mate, but he couldnt continue, he was seeing black in one eye and had internal bleeding behind it, the doctor said he would have stopped the fight in the 4th round because of it even if campbell had wanted to continue because it could have caused permanant eye damage or blindness. Therefore, i have nothing against Campbell needing to quit. On the topic, i think its a great idea.:rasta
