Thats why Williams rejected a rematch, it wasnt until Margarito beat Cotto and Williams was dominated by Quintana that Paul decided he wanted to fight again. Pathetic.

No he wont beat Williams your right becuase when Williams gets knocked out at middleweight he will look to avenge that only to get knocked out again.

I doubt this very much. If this fight comes off, I do not think there will be any need for a rematch.

No doubt....not that I don't think Kelly is skillful...he is. He's just not the slick, crafty kind of fighter that Paul is. ANd Kelly has trouble with Slick, crafty guys. Only Paul is more busy....which at 160 against Kelly could be a double edged sword. The more he punches, the more openings there are. He may not be as quick or as powerful at 160 as he was at 147. But his skills won't go anywhere since skills don't deminish or drop off when moving up in weight. Kelly is a cool customer. He isn't rattled easy and he'll have trouble with Paul but he'll keep a cool head and eventually the size, power an strength will be the great equalizer in this one. I could be wrong but I have a feeling about this one. Usually I pick Williams over anyone but at 160 against a guy like Kelly I think it will be too much.

I don't see it turning out any other way. Most of the people who are picking Williams are looking at the wrong aspects of this match up. Some of them are good posters and great fans of the sport. They're just mildly confused right now.

One common theme is "Kelly lost to Hopkins, therefore he will lose to anyone with boxing skills." Williams has lots of skill. He has fast hands and he is very fluid to watch. He is also very inaccurate and throws mostly arm punches. If you want to beat KP you have to hit him HARD and you have to hit him ALOT! I doubt if Willy can do either.

Another common theme is "Pavlik can't keep up with Paul's work rate." This is a fallacy. Pavlik threw nearly 100 punches in the first freaking round with Edison Miranda firing back at him. In addition I don't think Williams is much faster than JT, and Pavlik effectively countered Jermain freaking Taylor multiple times. Paul's "work rate" won't be a problem.

An additional common theme says "Pavlik can't box. He's just a one dimensional slugger. If Williams can take his power, KP is in trouble." First, there is little chance that Williams can take Pavlik's punches. Second, the idea that KP can't box is an internet myth. JT fought Pavlik twice, BHop twice, and fought a much better version of Winky than Williams fought. One of those guys won a unanimous decision over JT. That is something the other two could not accomplish.

How does that make it irrelevant if he had a third fight and did the same you could actually say that and it would hold water.
But clearly he was schooled by Quintana a guy that was destroyed by Cotto, and you some how seem to think Paul will just beat down Cotto I dont buy that, Paul has proven to me he is nothing more than a high volume puncher and thats it.

BTW I'm not a fan of rematches making first fights "irrelevant", that's silly talk.

The flaws Quintana exposed are still there with Paul, the question are does Pavlik have the skills to USE that sort of style?

Better yet, does Kelly need to?

Williams/Quintana and Pavlik/Hopkins, both men's losses, have little bearing on this fight. They have value for training, but only if you look at it and ask, "Now how can Williams/Pavlik exploit the flaw I just saw." Not how Hopkins or Quintana did it, but how can Williams/Pavlik do it.

Pretty much. My point is that neither fight was an abberation, it's a legitimate issue.

I'm not saying Pavlik should just sit there and watch the quintana fight 2000x over and say "I'm not as fast as Carlos or as slick but hey, let's do that!"

I'm saying that it's not something you just sweep under the rug as if they don't exist.

According to Joshua Clottey's twitter, Paul Williams called him a *****.
