Noone forces you to always give the close rounds to the harder puncher. Is that a new rule or something?

"It's a close round, they've landed almost same number of punches... but oh wait Pac is the harder puncher so his punches must have been the harder ones in this round... so I'll give this round to Pac!". I don't mean to offend you or anything, but do you realize how ridiculous that sounds?

And I don't really care if I am in the minority. Being in the majority doesn't automatically mean one is correct about something.

Yep. Pac is The mutha****in' Flash, we can't see his punches.

It was a close round, mate, so it's reasonable for people to score it differently. Many scored that round for JMM and I can't say I blame them (I personally scored it for Pac).

the inflict the same number of punches and clean punches...rounds1, 7 and 9. How can you give that rounds to JMM when pac is clearly the harder puncher meaning the one landing the more damaging blows

First of all, have you checked my scorecard? I've posted it in this thread. Out of the rounds you mention, I only scored one of them for Marquez (round 9). I gave Pac both round 1 and round 7.

Every blow is different than the other. You can't just assume the harder puncher's blows are harder everytime, you gotta check every blow. Marquez is a pretty hard puncher himself.

    1. Pac 10-9
    2. JMM 10-9 (clearly)
    3. Pac 10-8 (clearly)
    4. Pac 10-9 (clearly)
    5. JMM 10-9 (clearly)
    6. JMM 10-9 (Clearly)
    7. JMM 10-9 (Clearly) *
    8. JMM 10-9 (Clearly)
    9 Pac 10-9 **
    10. Pac 10-9 (Clearly)
    11. JMM 10-9 (Clearly) ***
    12. JMM 10-9 (Clearly)

    FINAL: 114-113 for JMM.

    * This is a easy round to score but people might not see it that well, before the Marquez cut JMM was winning the round with ease, after the cut Pac makes a comeback and he might be winning the round by a bit but after 2 or 3 seconds he tries to keep going against jmm and he gets countered hard, so the round goes to jmm by a bit, until here to the end of the round jmm keeps winning the round making it clear...

** Difficult round to score but I would give it to pac, Pac starts winning the round good, then jmm makes a comeback and he might tie the round but after 2 seconds pac connects a hard straight left going the round for pac, then in the last 30 secs marquez makes a comeback again and he might tie the round again but in the last second pac connects a hard straight left to win the round...

*** This might be difficult to score for some people because pac finish the round with a nice right hook but if you separate the round in parts you can see it wasnt enough clearly those last 5 seconds for pac...

A very close fight but if you watch it well the rounds were not difficult to score, this was a close fight with clear rounds for each fighter going the fight for jmm...

Don't have a copy of a tape of the fight to hand. But I remember scoring it 2 points in Jmm's favour. Does anyone know what Dan Rafael scored it? I have a feeling he scored it 2 points to Jmm.

yes, i checked it..JMM is a hard puncher but pacquiao is in a different level. The only time JMM can win rounds against pacquiao is when he would outland pac. if it is close, it goes to pacquiao because he is the harder puncher hence, did more damage

This sounds like a broken record. Being the harder puncher doesn't automatically give you the edge in close rounds. I already answered this in my previous post, I'm not going to repeat myself.

I know what a close round is. But what's your point? Even good veteran judges (like the ones who scored this fight) often score close rounds differently.

I had it for JMM 114-113 but never rewatched it. I was disgusted when JMM took rd 12 and that pretty much sealed it.
Never seen Pac tire before or after this fight. Pac definitely won rd 1 for me though.

I think in hindsight this fight will be closer than most originally thought. I can understand some giving the nod to Pac.

The problem lies in the "expectation" that it would be an easy fight for Pacquaio and it didnt turn out to be that way.

Both fights could have turned out to be two magnificent wins for Pac. They could have stopped the first fight in the first and no one would have questioned it. Had there been a minute left on the 3rd round of the 2nd, the fight would have been over. Wouldve shouldve couldve thats a part of the game, but in reality it was Pac who came closer to ending both of these fights for what its worth.

See, that is the point. The truth depends on who is looking at it. The JMM-Pac debate can go on for 50 years and you would not get any unified decision after that. Those that are for JMM would give close rounds for JMM and vice versa.

The only thing that irks me is that some idiots in the ESB would say that it is a clear cut win for JMM and a schooling. That is whyI stopped involving myself in re-scoring fights.

If you really want to score it on the hindsight, which we are doing now, then watch the fight at very very slow motion then score it depending on how it runs, may it punch per punch or whoever caused the most damage. Likewise, since it is in hindsight, then any non-call should be called . Example, JMM clinging on the rope after a punch is a KD based on the boxing rules as we are both the referee and judge (that was not seen by the referee because of vantage view ). But even doing this would still be subject to debate. Those for JMM would say that although Pac blocked the body punch, surely something must have went through which can not be seen in the replay.

It is a no win situation but the general consensus should be that the fight was so close that one swing vote from any of those close rounds would win it for that fighter. Any view other than this is purely idiotic.

But wait, because many Pac supporters admit that it was a close fight, many JMM fans then used this as evidenced that JMM won. The logic probably is that JMM fans admit that it was a schooling so that even if they erred in scoring, it would still be a JMM win whereas, if Pac fans erred in their scoring, then the closest that pac could get is a draw or a loss. And if a Filipino said that JMM won, e.g. Donaire, then it has to be taken like the ultimate truth because after all he is a Filipino and have his bias and yet JMM won.

There is never going to be a consensus. More than a year ago, I posted a thread pretending I do not know how to and posted a fight to show me how to score one and I intentionally posted two (2) rounds. I think that was the 10th and 11th round of the Pac vs. JMM 1 fight. I intentionally posted thses rounds because it was more or less universally agreed that 1 round was taken by JMM and the other by Pac. I can not remember which is which. As usual, the JMM fan (no need to mention) declared both rounds for JMM with very colorful commentaries to booth.

Some Pac fans scored it as split rounds, and I don not remember someone scoring it all for Pac.

That shows that any decision that we take, even in hindsight, would still be affected by our biases.

The only way to score it very objectively is to get a person who does not follow boxing, had never seen boxing, or heard of boxing and explain how to score a fight. Leave themk to watch the fight in slow motion then let then score it round by round. Ask your mom or sister probably.

And because of that your score should be the most accurate and least subjective!:happy
