I just rewatched afew rounds of Oscar-Forbes and my god. That little ***** fights as close to Floyd does then anyone else I know. Sure he's not as good, but his shoulder roll is pretty good and this would prepare JMM or just about anybody who would be facing Floyd.

With him haveing both Jeff Mayweather and Roger at one point or another, he's really picked up on the family style of boxing.

What do you guys think? Why haven't more opponents seeked him for sparing?

Steve Forbes prepares you for Mayweather as much as checkers prepares you for chess.

    **** you ni99a.

Steve would make a great sparing partner. He doesn't have to be as good as Floyd *****, sparing is used for working on different things and styles as PRACTICE. He is very hard to hit and has a damn good shoulder roll....somthing that JMM will have to deal with when he fights Floyd. So **** you. Sparing guys like Steve Forbes or Joan Guzman makes sense.

Forbes would be an excellent starting point.

In fact, if someone asked me for a straight answer without having the chance to think further, his name would be the first to spring to mind.

Clearly you would want someone with a bit more of a dig though.

I don't think he will fight Marquez the way he fought Hatton though.... he did the usual sussing out period which is standard..... then got in the pocket Mosley vs Margarito style and beat the guy at his own game.

Ive always thought that Hatton's style caused his knockout against PBF. PBF was forced to fight in close because Hatton just kept coming forward and forcing PBF to fight that fight. PBF would have been happy to just outbox hatton over 12.

But it did give us a chance to see PBF's inside game and he is truely a great fighter. He can fight inside, he can fight midrange and he can pop shot from the outside.

I could see the connection Forbes is a great sparring partner for most anyone.

Come on man the only thing they have in common is that there both brothas lol. Nah I think JMM is wasting his time sparring with his countrymen most Mexicans rely on offense rather than defense. Im pretty sure Forbes can mimick May pretty good it all depends how fast JMM can pick up on this.

He dude can fight. Why the hate, no he is not Mayweather but he has his style. Anyone fighting Mayweather would be fortunate to have a sparing partner with the tools he brings to the table.

Steve is good for his knowledge of the Mayweathers. I've never actually seen sparring footage of him "being" Floyd though. His own style is slick but doesn't really remind me of Floyd's all THAT much.

Of course he should be on the list of sparring partners though. I threw out Antwone Smith in another thread, and either of the Simms brothers could be brought in for some good work also, assuming they still box.

With Forbes connection to the mayweathers though, why would he help out PBF's opponent?

Marquez probably worries more about the fight getting canceled again than having no sparring partners at this point anyway.

He has mentioned before that he does not spar specifically for an opponent, he spars more to keep sharp and to simulate fight night atmosphere. He said he figures out the opponent during the fight itself or something to that effect.

    Great post!

Floyd has said repeatedly that Hatton was his hardest fight and i believe him.

As you said Hatton forced Floyd to fight, and we saw the great fighter that Floyd can be.

    i dont....

it was his most sloppy fight

edit: floyd says that about a bunch of his fights ... I think he says that to pay homage to his opponent
