And I heard that Greb was very faithful to his wife...I think he was considered "ladies man" after her death...

Then Manny Steward is lying. There used to be a show called WBF Bodystars and they did a feature on Evander Holyfields training and one of the things they definitely showed him doing was running.
This would've been just after the Cooper fight and prior to the Holmes fight....two fights before Holyfield hooked up with Manny.

Much of what it written about Greb's life outside the ring is nonsense.

Greb was fanatical about his roadwork reputation notwithstanding.

It depends to some degree on what one means by "conditioned", but James Toney as a heavyweight could fight 12 very hard rounds and never ran. The vast majority of his training, in the latter stages of his career, was made up of sparring, which was what gave him the endurance to fight 12 rounds against bigger men like Dominick Guinn, Sam Peter and John Ruiz.

It's got me how anyone could develop the 'wind' required for 12 rounds without doing any running - not saying nobody's ever done it though.

In Toney's case, nothing like hard rounds in preparation for hard rounds.

I heard Wlad barely runs anymore. He replaced most of it with swimming because it's less wear and tear on his body.

Who the hell does like to run , it sucks. I run ,but i hate it. I get tired and feel like quitting but i tell myself to keep going. Which is what fighters have to do. Its a very mental moment for anyone, lots of time to think about things. Whether you should press on for another 1/4 mile or be weak and not challenge yourself. The only thing that i can see that could replace running and get the same benefit would be swimming. Low impact and it works practically all the muscles in your body.
