I wondered if anyone has the Fitzsimmons-Lang film in computer file form. There's a short clip of it here: http://www.fitzsimmons.co.nz/html/rareboxingfilm.html If somebody could upload it and/or direct me to a place where it's available for download, I would really appreciate it. I'm trying to do an analysis of Fitzsimmons' style using all the available information (Corbett-Fitz, Lang-Fitz, the short Jeffries-Fitz reconstruction that you'll also see on the page above, and Fitz's manual).
Excellent! Thanks, GPater. I knew there were about three minutes of middling-quality film on Youtube...is your version clearer and/or longer?
i think my version is the full fight about a round isnt it. its cleaer yeh, from what i remember its very good quality for the time, i think its very clear. One thing is it only shows about 3/4 the ring so when they move over (not alot) there chopped off
That's great. I'm looking forward to seeing your version. From what I can tell, the Lang film is a lot clearer than the Fitzsimmons/Corbett footage that I have (I tried to upload it to Youtube a couple times, then realized that it's way over the 10 minute limit; I suppose I could upload it elsewhere if you're interested and don't have it). Fitz's age in the Lang fight is actually an advantage, since I'd get to see him moving more slowly than in his prime.
The full film is out there, but most people have only seen the final two rounds. Fitz was ahead early in the fight, but the old warrior gassed out late in the outdoor heat. It should be noted that Fitz went out on his shield. There are a few bold warriors, and there are a few old warriors, but there are very few bold and old warriors.
