Michael Spinks W15 Dwight Qawi

that's what I say. Evander put on the more impressive performance and this time, Dwight came to fight. It was ALMOST the return of the buzzsaw.

He sleepwalked in the Spinks fight. It's like he wasnt into the fight at all and didnt care if he won or not.

 

A very tactical fight; not what we all expected..... It is now a hard watch for all 15 rds.... Very slow and dull................ Spinks won big time...........

It's called establishing early dominance/danger. You need to look a little closer.

I haven't yet seen a Spinks fight I found dull. His combination of power and all round technical skills is hypnotic to watch.

 

Looking at these highlight's make me wonder. Why do some people say Michael Spinks hand speed was only average. He definitely had quick hands, he just didn't throw alot of five or 6 punch combinations. He threw quick 2 or 3 punch combos.

 

Not if he had done some fighting

 

Once was enough! Believe me, I have never been tempted to watch it a second time. Worse than Hagler-Duran. This fight was a dud

 

How do you know "fighting" wouldn't have just gotten him more hurt or even KO'd?

 

The fight was all hype but no fireworks ever erupted......... Spinks was too cagey, while Qawi pressed like a 3,000 year old midget Mummy...... Christ, even Spinks' trips to the canvas mid way through the sparring match were either nondescript or complete bull****..... Qawi was stepping on toe's........ Peace...

The trip to the canvas was the highlight for me. It actually revived me from my coma.

 

If that were the case, then he shouldnt have taken up boxing as a sport.

fighters dont just lay back after taking a couple hard shots. If that were the case, Hagler would have just let Tommy Hearns outbox him instead of pressing the fight and getting the knockout.

Every fighter knows there's a possibility of getting hurt or knocked out but Dwight poses a threat himself. But he didnt come to fight like I said. I wouldnt be surprised he was bought off.

And besides, these are the kinds of things they work on in training-defense and offense but all Dwight did was throw out a half hearted jab. so I would say that Mike didnt have much of a challenge facing him

The guy's good enough to be a two-division champ and a HOFer, but he shouldn't have taken up boxing just because ONE solitary fighter ranked among the all time best at his weight class has the ability to shut him down??

What a crock of nonsense.

Fighters have been making other fighters do that for as long as the sport has been in existence.

If it wasn't the case, he wouldn't have let Willie Monroe outbox him.

 

No one saw the Monroe fight so no one can comment on why he lost. Had Marvin been intimidated by Monroe's power or abilities he wouldnt have come back to lay him out twice over in return matches.

The reason Dwight lost the match had nothing to do with the volley Spinks threw in the first. that's foolish but it remains the explanation for why Dwight lost.

The real reason he lost was a lack of offense. In short, he didnt show up to fight. You could see it in the Davis fight. In fact...you could see the change throughout. At the start it was the same Dwight that massacred Saad with an intensity that had to be seen to be believed. It was like the reincarnation of Tony Ayala Jr. But after the first you could see he let up (slowed his attack) and allowed Davis to get back into it, turning it into an actual fight.

Not trying to take anything away from Mike. I give him his props but he didnt win that fight so much as Dwight lost it.
