Cotto is technically the better boxer, skills that is, but its been a long time since i accepted that superb boxing skills can be defeated by an awkward fighter (unorthodox).

Pacquiao has some flaws but so are the other boxers. His balance is not a bad as before. He knows how to block and weave his head. His arm length is definitely not short. Pacquiao throws overhead punches only if it's necessary. I mean you hardly need to throw overhead punches if you and your opponent are relative in size. Not to mention that it depends on the style of the opponent.

Outside his speed, he has decent power and good footwork. If Pacquiao wants to punch hard, he will need to slow down to generate more power. It's hard to punch fast and hard (by hard I mean powerful enough to KO a person with one punch.) at the same time.

I think its common knowledge that everyone's body is different. Hence some people will have a bigger frame that allows their "power" to be much stronger than another.

Some people might have denser leg muscles than someone else. I can constantly workout my legs all year round, but see little to almost no improvement in size or cut. Whereas someone else might get ripped ass calves.

Ethnicities have a lot to play in body frames and these traits and such.

To lump everyone into the "we're all the same brain" idea is pretty ****in' stupid. Yes this MAY be true, and YES we MAY be capable of doing anything...but we cant change our bodies.

We're all capable of singing the same song...but will it sound EXACTLY the same?...No. That's because of our vocal chords. Our bodies are different. Hence why we have difference in tonal ranges and sounds as well as projection.

So yes dumb ****in' pee brain idiot...those are natural abilities that CANNOT be developed over time. They maybe tweaked, but at some point we peak to our potentials and that's that.

Using a dictionary definition to suit your argument is REALLLLL cute.

Here I can do it too.

: a learned power of doing something competently : a developed aptitude or ability <language skills>

Apparently most that voted Cotto did not see Pac-Larios. All they saw was Pac-Jmm

And speed cant be developed? Ask that to all athletes who manage to go faster or stronger whether in track, cycling or swimming, weight lifting.

Tell me what the **** is it that you smoke?

You just cut and pasted something that supports my argument:lol:

    HOLY ****ING ****!

Why is it that no one can grasp this ****ing concept that SKILL ISNT EVERYTHING! Not in boxing.

    Never has. Never will.

You can study and study and study for a ****in' test for weeks and still fail. Yet some ****in' guy who only merely studied for an hour, got stoned the next morning and took the same test drunk can pass with flying colors.

    Skill vs. Will.

This is what makes boxing so great. The intangibles. The X factors. Nothing can just be looked at on paper. Otherwise there would be no upsets. This sport would ****in' suck.

If superior skill is supposed to win fights thennnn,

Malignaggi wouldve never lost to Hatton
Mijares wouldve never lost to Darchinyan
Leonard wouldve never lost to Duran
Cotto wouldve never lost to Margarito
Quintana wouldnt have been blown out in Rd.1 vs. Williams
Judah wouldve never lost to Baldomir
Khan wouldve never lost to Prescott
    Taylor wouldve beaten Chavez
    Sweet Pea wouldve beaten Tito

You get my ****in' point?! :-(

Jesus Christ man. Think outside of resumes and fights for a second and get to know the ****in' sport a little bit. Step into a ****in' gym and listen in on some ****. Watching 24/7 won't give you a window of how skills are developed. That show simply shows fighters preparing strategies for their upcoming fights with the skills they have. They might pick something up here and there, but nothing tooooo major. Skills take years and years to develop into muscle memory, this is something you'll have to witness in practice for yourself. You can't just make assumptions based on what you see in a fight...at least when talking about boxing.

Are we also forgetting about fate? Destiny? I mean **** man...call it God. Call it whatever you want, but sometimes if your meant to lose you will. You can have all the skill in the world, but some guys just ****in' want it more. And what little skill they have MIGHT be enough.

    **** man.

People take this question soo...****in' wrong.

The simple ****in' truth of the matter is that although Pac has SOME skill. Its not a lot and what he has, he uses the **** out of. He isn't some technician. He's not some boxing genius.

He's simply a guy who goes in there swinging for the fences. And we love him because of it. Because in every single one of us there is a fierce Pacquiao who's awkward and bizarre to deal with.

This is what makes him special...is the fact that he isnt really THAT special. And yet...he can still shock millions. Have people befuddled. How in the **** did he beat DLH?! :huh...It must be skill?! :think...No man. He was simply too ****in' fast.

    That's why we love Pac.

Again. My responses in this thread aren't to attack Pac. I LOVE Pac. He's my second favorite boxer. RIGHT UNDER COTTO. I was AT the Pac/Hatton fight. I held a sign declaring my proud admiration for the Pacman with a large British crowd around me. I didn't give a ****. I rooted for the man anyways.

But the simple ****in' fact is that Pacquiao. Isnt as skilled as Cotto. Im not trying to make Cotto out to be some sort of boxing genius either, but if you simply look at HOW they fight...not the results. You can see the difference in skill. Pacquiao knows how to do only ONE THING when faced with adversity...that's COME ****IN' FORWARD! And he wins because he just mentally out does his opponent. He never says die. But that's his problem. He can't really do anything else and pays dearly for it in blood and pain.

Cotto gets more **** for the adjustments and changes he makes in the ring because it appears as though he struggles and looks desperate. But regardless he can box, brawl, counter, sit and wait. The man has been in almost any situation and only failed in one just before the finish line. But because he didn't KO opponents he's defenseless and not as skilled.

Cotto skill and versatility are heavily underrated and underestimated time and again. But after Pac...I doubt anyone can say **** afterward.

I love this matchup because it will be a classic of many boxing themes

    Skill vs. Will
    Speed vs. Power
    Big Man vs. Little Man

And the world will watch...whether Cotto wins or Pac. It will certainly be something for us to thank both fighters for. Regardless of skill or result.

And at weight lifting competitions do you see people lifting the same amount or different?

    Think before you post.

And apparently people who voted Pac only watched Hatton and DLH, while only viewing Cotto/Margarito

I did not vote, but how many Pac fights are actually competitve and not one-sided beating. I could give you some : JMM-Pac 1 & 2, EM-Pac 1, where Pac fought EM with a cut starting I think at round 4 (EM-Pac 2 probably before the 6th round). The rest of Pac's fights are so one sided that you would wonder if they deliberately matched him with bums, including MAB. Besides the Pac is slightly different from the Pac of EM and JMM period (aside from bulking up). The main difference is that he has a right hand now unlike before when it was all left hand.

    Cotto can be the slugger
    Cotto can be the boxer
    Cotto can fight orthodox
    Cotto can fight southpaw
Cotto can fight off the backfoot
    Cotto can be the stalker
Cotto can beat you with his jab, straight right, body shots, basically anything he chooses to do
Cottos balance is also usually spot on while pac is often wild and off balance

Pac has great power and great speed, is developing and has developed a very solid d with unorthodox offbeat rythem that also throws off opponents... but to me there is no doubt cotto has the better skillset, while pac has greater physical ability. You make pacs speed and power more average like cottos are (though yes.. cotto does have very good power and speed, but not almost superhumans like pacs) and what is he? a very one dimensional fighter.... while cotto has many dimensions to his game,
He can take you apart almost completely going to the body - Bailey
He can beat you by boxing off the backfoot almost the entire time - Clottey
He can straight up be a come forward destroyer - Pinto

Cottos skills are underated because he got tired and stopped doing what he can do against margarito....

Again...I don't see how beating guys with skill equates to you having skill.
