Pavlik V Froch who would win?

Pavlik/Miranda: pucnhes thrown round 1, 97/94. carl froch ain't throwing no 94 punches in round 1 against Pavlik. KP would have no trouble throwing 100 punches because Froch is just so damn slow and hittable.

 

Yeah. I noticed he was making assertions with NO attempt to back them up with any kind of reasoning or fact. Just a 'cuz I say'. I almost put him on my ignore list after the last post. He may make it during his next if he shows the same 'reasoning'. Shortly after Froch won against Pascal there was a deluge of newbs on here almost like there was some organized efforts. They all parroted the same lines that were straight of the telecast from the commentators. Now we still get the same trickle. First loss and lots of these folks will go away.

Nah, Taylor was fighting like he always does. He came out strong against Pavlik just like he did Froch. When he knocked down Pavlik, he threw about 15 power punches. Problem for him is he still didn't finish Pavlik because Pavlik is a tough MOFO, and it came back to haunt him because he expended a lot of energy. Pavlik took over the fight not because Taylor was cocky, it wasn't a fluke. It was a gradual progression, Pavlik came more and more into the fight and wore him down. Besides, in the rematch Taylor can hardly of been cocky after Pavlik handed him his one loss, and Pavlik still outworked and outlanded him to get a decision, despite Taylor fighting a smart risk-free fight.

Look all you want for the stats. You know and I know Froch does not throw as many punches. Pavlik threw 845 punchs against Taylor in the second fight, despite it being a noticeably more tactical fight. Typically he can average 80-90 punches a round, check the Miranda fight. Froch just doesn't, he bides his time and waits for openings, and later he ups the pace.

I'm well aware work-rate isn't the be all and end all, its one of the many factors and it DOES favour Pavlik. You tried to discredit that part of my reasoning, but you were proven wrong just as you would be on the others. :yep

 

You discredit it because if he does it against Froch he'll be KO'd. Enlightening, truly.

I believe that this would be an extremely interesting match-up.

They are both fighters who like to walk forward and bang which makes for a very exciting affair and basically guarantees a stoppage/knockout.

Froch tends to walk into punches, which he knows he can do because he has a granite chin, but I can't see him being able to take more than a few rounds of Pavlik right hands before he starts to get groggy.

However, Pavlik is very one-dimensional in my opinion, and Froch is definitely the stronger and more brutal man. Nobody in the SMW division is invulnerable to his power.

It would be a war, and, although Pavlik is probably the more skilled fighter, Froch is more built for the war than Pavlik and I think his grit would see him through to a TKO victory in round 9 or thereabouts (so long as he starts to defend himself if Pavlik starts raining on him.)

 

Fair enough. Pavlik's defense is under rated though. He doesn't mind getting hit by punches that don't hurt him so he appears to be getting clobbered at times. Against Lockett and Rubio he said he got hit once in each fight. Well, by the way he counts punches I guess. Kelly can box. Extensive amatuer career to back that up. Froch will not make it through this up comming tourney undefeated. Bet money on that.

The whole "Pavlik is one-dimensional" theory got a bunch of guys knocked out. Stop and think about it. This kid won a national golden gloves, and a national PAL tournament at 16, made the Olympic trials at 17, and as a pro he is the only fighter who ever won a UD over Jermain Taylor. Hopkins failed twice, and winky failed. Two of the finest boxers of this generation failed, but Pavlik succeeded. That does not spell "one dimensional." It spells "this kid can box." Pavlik himself once said, "I hope everybody thinks I'm one-dimensional, cuz that's not what they're gonna get."

Banking on Froch's chin to hold up is misguided, and ignores the historical facts. There are seven guys on KP's resume' who had never been stopped before Pavlik. A couple of them had never even been hurt. Couple that with the fact that Froch is easy to hit, and it means trouble for Carl.

And, I keep wondering what makes people think Kelly would just come out and go to war. KP can brawl a bit when he has to, but he prefers to box from the outside, and there is nothing in Frochs tool box that can stop that. He lacks the footwork, the speed, and the cooridnation it takes to keep Pavlik from making it his type of fight.

Ask yourself this question; "Is Kelly Pavlik 14 seconds better than Jermain Taylor?"
